The FIRST SCALE you should learn on guitar PLUS TEN RIFFS!

In this first single note guitar lesson, we look at the E Minor Pentatonic Scale in open position (which mean it uses open strings!) This is appropriate as your first ever scale! That word 'scale' can be very scary for some people- it was for me too! However, a scale simply give you all the 'good notes' that work well one after the other in ascending and descending order. Its like learning the 'ABC' of music so we can learn to make the guitar 'talk'!

As a scale alone is pretty useless (no one goes to a gig to hear scales!) we look at 10 songs that use notes from this scale so you can APPLY the 'good notes' you now know straight away! This scale means we can play Rock and Blues riffs. If that sounds like fun- you gotta learn this scale!!

I'm self taught, and the way I learnt how to play scale was by learning the 5 positions of the Major and Minor scales. And then improvisation just came natural.

Andy, my thanks to you for your wonderful beginner course, student to teacher. I started last year, and learnt the basics from your videos, which I would practice in my free time. I can say confidently that i have graduated to intermediate level, and am comfortable with barre chords, have good chord progression and changes, and have a decent repertoire of songs up my sleeve for those pleasant evenings.
