I was recently diagnosed with PTSD and Autism Spectrum, at the age of 60! It makes so much sense: I've always had trouble with relationships and making friends. A lot of people over the years told me I'm weird. Someone even asked me once "what planet are you from?"

As a possibly autistic mid 30’s adult I really appreciate you highlighting this! According to the online checklists I meet the criteria almost to a T for both sensory and auditory processing disorders which are the two most common cooccurring disorders amongst autistics and I’ve struggled my entire life with eye contact on top of that so I’d love to know exactly where I fall on the spectrum eventually at some point once I find someone who can diagnose me officially.

Who would I talk to about getting tested for this? These descriptions really resonate with me as I have trouble maintaining relationships. Including with my mom. There’s absolutely no trauma between us at all. I’m distant with everyone in my life . My social skills are getting worse as I get older and I hate it.

I have ADHD, my doc threw out maybe autism but the more I drive into it the less I think so. I can recognize non verbals, my problem is I assume they don't like me if it's neutral or distracted. I can make jokes, carry on conversions but I will say my conversation starters are much different than normal. I have an inside joke with a coworker, I once asked her out of no where "where do you see yourself in 5 years" after not talking yet that morning. She just laughed. But it's because I was daydreaming about my own life and thought to ask her. So idk, I do have social anxiety and inferiority but I think most of my issues can be chalked up to ADHD. We'll see how this unfolds.

How are you supposed to know you're missing social cues when you're missing them. Surely it manifests as being confused as to why you find social interaction impossible/difficult when other people don't. I have always found it difficult and I hardly ever know what to say unless it's about a topic I know, like at work. Work conversations are simple in comparison with social conversations.

I'm now 50 but have wondered for a while. I think in pictures and always have. Teachers thought I was smart but really I didn't need repetitive examples and didn't get answers wrong because I made a photographic file. Monday January 20th 2003 I had a stroke and it's as if my files were deleted. It's a frightening scary thing to be damaged in this way.

55 and been late-diagnosed with autism as an adult. I never felt like a regular child growing up. I was always in special schools and residential schools during my entire childhood. It was a developmental disorder, but it was only later in life that it was recognized as autism.

Most of the time adults are MISDIAGNOSED as very few doctors have the knowledge and background to o so though they think they are qaulified. It is now becoming exponentially diagnosed among adults. I was diagnosed last year at 50 and am now trying o help Veterans Better Care.

Y’all have this autistic lady on and never asked her anything or included her? Please tell me you just poorly edited this video and inadvertently excluded her comments here.. I really wanted to hear her input.. 😔

The doctor who diagnosed me with ADHD also said "theres no way i can be on the spectrum." Now im wondering if it was because i was incredibly smart or good at masking for a toddler. Because how the frick am i relating to so many aspies? I skimmed the ASD diagnostic criteria, and it fit me pretty much perfectly. Theres even some close friends who suspect i could be high functioning at least. Planning on getting an assessment when I have the money.

I often wonder would a diagnosis matter now that I'm 45? Would it help, can I even get help... I have a lot of doubts, and I'm afraid even if I got the diagnosis would it change anything, my life is a mess now.

I'm 66. I answered a random questionnaire that popped up on my phone. Results were "You're on the spectrum. See your doctor". So far, I've come up empty trying to find a mental health care professional to investigate further due to my age. ☹
