I braked so hard, it DESTROYED my shoe...

Formula Cars have no power assisted brakes, which means we literally use max leg strength to decelerate the car. Especially at high speed, we have some much downforce on the car that the limit of braking performance can be as much determined by the muscles in your left leg as the friction of the brakes themselves.

I used to have a perfect clutch pedal imprint on the sole of all my left shoes from the way I drove a really quick street car that happened to have damaged synchros on 2nd and 3rd gears (I used to rebuild the box every couple of months, I was asking way to much out of this old Aussie M21 4 speed- it was behind a big $$$ 383 that made way too much torque for that gearbox) that wasn't going to slow me down, I just got really fast at double clutching going up through the gears so the damaged synchros didn't really do any work and didn't slow down gear changes. It was such a perfect imprint, it looked like it had been carved into the soles of all my shoes... Everyone used to laugh and want me to show their friends when they came into our workshop... 😂😂😂

I remember watching "can a random person drive an F1 car"? The engineer said "press the brakes as hard as you can". The the guy did so hard and the engineer said "push harder", to which the guy replied "that's as hard as I can push", the engineer replied "hmm OK, well that's 70 percent braking force, you need to press that hard every corner or the brakes won't get warm and the car won't stop" 😂

Thats a weird way of braking by using your heel. Unless you do a heel and toe by pressing the gas and brake but not the brake and gas if you know what i mean.

Why don’t use just use a different sized master cylinder to give you better hydraulic advantage over the callipers? Or change the leverage point on the brake pedal? Seems a bit silly you’re having to exert that much force.
