Do you Need to Bleed your Hydraulic Brakes? 🤔 #mtb #bikelife

I found out this easy way to know that I need to bleed my MTB hydraulic brakes, I discovered it accidentally after leaving my bike overnight flipped, and the brakes didn't work the following day!

Now I try this every time I feel like my brakes are getting spongy, it's a quick and easy way before getting the bleed kit out.

I suggest to leave it longer if you're not sure, if your brakes really need a bleed, it won't take long before you notice it.

When a brake needs bleeding you are the first one to notice it, you dont need to flip the bike upside down

The fluid in your brakes is upside down that's why the brakes go all the way to the bars

Your dad must be a bike mechanic because of all the knowledge on your vids. If you do all or most of your mechanic work on your bikes kudos to you my friend. Stay cool. ✌️😎

This is why I tell people to understand how things actually work because you can figure stuff like this out. Don't only know how to change parts but know why they are doing what they are doing. Things can be a lot simpler than you're thinking.

Alternatively, if you notice you brake lags or not as much pressure as it should thats a pretty good indicator.

Assuming that bicycle brakes works the same way as cars, this won't work if you have a larger reservoir, especially when the fluid is just low and there is actually no air in the system, the fluid fromm the caliper just goes down to fill the reservoir. To be completely safe you still need to pump the brakes to build pressure before measuring in this case.

Also what can happen here is the cap not sealing properly due to bad rubber seals or not capped correctly, this can cause a huge mess on the floor and even worse introduce even more air into the system through the bad seal.

What is your bike braked don't have a Bleeder valve on the reservoir? (I have a 2005 Rocky mountain switch s1 with some old haynes in the front (it had them on the rear but i accidentally broke the bleeder valve on the caliper so i got some sram levels im gonna get some shimanos for it tho and put the levels on my 99 kona stinky) and they dont have the screw port like the ones in the video so how tf do i bleed them?

Putting the bike upside down all the air bubbles will flow into the caliper so that makes the bleeding process harder. When it’s bleed time you’ll know trust me
