Darling is a villain, no doubt about that, but anyone who has read the books knows why he wanted those amps. He wanted them for Alina and for someone to be his equal. Understand that his mother Baghra has been instilling in him all his life that he is unique in the entire world and the only one with such immense power. That's why he was looking for the SAME person so he wouldn't be lonely. Of course, he did abominable things to achieve his goal, but are we surprised? Would we like to be one of a kind like him?? I don't think... Mal loved and loves Alina, yes. I personally have nothing against him. But please don't make Alexander just a dark figure. Everything has its reasons from the past...

They should have been together. I think deep down the darkling loved her he just didn’t know how to love her. He was afraid of something. He wanted them both to be powerful. He didn’t want her to be afraid of him so he lied to her. I think his mom ruined it and that they would have been an amazing couple. But i think the darkling needed to open up to alaina about what he wanted her to do more. I think she would have understood the reasoning behind him wanting to end the war by speeading the fold. The few lives that were ruined by the spreading of the fold could have been the end of the war and thousands upon thousands more of people would have died if the war hadn’t stoped. The darkling had good intentions, and he said that in the scene where alaina was in his tent after he killed the stag and brought her back to the camp. I believe that the darkling is a complex character and you have to really look into his words and the way he acts and try and give him a chance. He might seem like a horrible person but deep down i think he really just wanted peace and someone to love.

He gave her gifts and made her think she was a princess. Only so he could use her for his twisted beliefs. He doesn’t want a lover, partner, or equal, he wants someone to manipulate and control. Meanwhile Mak loved her before and after she became the sun summoner. Anyone saying the Darkling and Alina are end game clearly can’t see the toxicity and abusive behavior he was showing. Mal only wanted what was best for Alina and that’s why I think they’re end game.

Darkling is very different in the books and the series. Ben Barnes Darkling made the monster lovable... But in the books he is just not.

Ok beautiful edit but I HATE Darklina so much I’m sorry. The Darkling was seducing her and manipulating her into doing what he wanted and being his tool just as he did with Genya and Zoya. Mal was much better for her, because he loved her for her. Not for her power, and not for what she could be in the future but who she was. The reason he had to turn away is because she was drifting so far away from the girl he knew that it was painful to watch. Mal was the only reason Alina survived Keramzn, and it was the same way for Mal too. They were best friends for almost 10 years before they became lovers and started showing their feelings. Idk exactly how the show depicts Mal but I have a feeling they did a really good job showing exactly who Mal is and the reason why I love him so much as a character, all he ever wanted was to make sure Alina was safe and he would literally do anything for her while the The Darkling only wished to use her. (Sorry that was long, and feel free to disagree this is just how I see it.)
