Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold HANDS ON: World’s Biggest Foldable!

Correction: We incorrectly stated that the Google Pixel Pro 9 Fold is the thinnest foldable phone in the world. It is the thinnest foldable sold in the U.S. The Honor Magic V3 and Xiaomi Mix Fold 4 are both thinner.

The new Pixel 9 Pro Fold is a radically different foldable phone than the original Pixel Fold with the biggest display yet at 8 inches, the thinnest design and more powerful Tensor G4 chip paired with 16GB of RAM. You also get improved cameras and a bevy of impressive AI features like Add Me, Pixel Studio, Pixel Screenshots and Gemini Live. Here’s our first impressions.

I would be sold on this if it had pressure-sensitive stylus support for drawing and note-taking. As owner of Fold 2, 4 and 6, I use these features a lot.

Massive savings on this in Australia for pre order at only $1'400 AUD with major retailer voucher and trade in. I'll be pre ordering as it's an absolute steal over the Samsung Fold 6

Reason I stick to my fold 5 is the fact you can have one home screen setup on the outside screen and another for tablet mode. I have it set up like I would a regular tablet and my outter screen for quick apps . I like having a separate set up rather then not be mirrored

I was considering preordering the Pixel 9 Fold, but I was on the fence due to the general limitations of foldable cameras. I understand there are physical limitations with the camera systems and the thickness of the foldables, but it's hard to convince myself to compromise when I'm paying double what the Pixel 9 Fold XL would cost (with trade-in and promotional vaules). $500+ for the Pixel 9 Fold XL and $1400 considering both with trade-in/promotional credits from a major retailer like Best Buy, it's difficult to go for the Fold with inferior cameras. If the retail price was $1400, then with promotions/trade-ins bringing the price down to $1, 000 the direct trade-off for inferior cameras would be the form factor at roughly a similar price.

That would make it much easier to pull the trigger, for the same price my phone folds but the cameras are ehh. I could live with that. At least Samsung generally offers amazing promotional/trade-in value where you are spending roughly $1, 000. I need those same promotional offers from Google but I know they won't come :/

I do prefer the look of curved corners but they should go for sharp corners on the fold so it looks more natural on phone mode.

At the durability section why is it that no reviewer mentions the foldable screen? Everyone points out gorilla glass victus 2 at the front and back, but so far every foldable could be scratched by your fingernails and I would be surprised if it wasn't the case for this one, especially since everyone seems to avoid the subject. But at least we saw some 16.9 aspect ratio here and how half the screen is black, making the actual content you watch approximately the same size as if you watched it on a normal phone :)
