Pixel 9 Pro Fold hands-on: Google nailed it

Google's Pixel 9 Pro Fold is a major departure from the company's first foldable. The passport-style design is gone, and now the outside screen is much bigger. Both displays get way brighter, and the 9 Pro Fold picks up all the latest Gemini AI and Pixel camera software features. It's a sleeker, much more refined device, but it costs an eye-popping $1,800.

As an Apple user I'm quite jealous of this fold. Think they may have finally done it.

The name is Pixel 9 Pro Fold which I find clever because it's really a Pixel 9 Pro on the outside with the same 6.3" display.

I am way too deep in the iOS ecosystem to ever consider an Android phone, but this is the first phone from outside the walled garden that I’ve wanted in years. I really hope Apple makes something like this because I would happily shell out the cost of an iPad mini and pro iPhone combined to get it, which is basically the form factor and the price point that this is at.

It could be because I am currently using the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra but if I owned a foldable phone based off the physical device only I would choose the Fold 6 every time. I like that design specifically. The outside screen is that box square look which I like.

I wish they'd offer easy battery replacement (removable), then these phones would have the potential to last 7 years. I know they want users to keep purchasing their latest models so won't but it would be nice.

The pixel 9 pro fold was definitely my favorite tough choice with that z fold 6 slim and 7 ultra coming w stylus functionality

The passport size was superior. There's not much point for a square screen when open. Watching movies = thick black bars. Watching vertical videos on social media = thick black bars too. Lose/lose situation. They should've kept the passport size and pushed for software improvements for better compatibility. But at least overall it's still better than Samsung's Fold, I guess.

Love the refinements they've done, but I don't really like the square aspect ratio of the inside screen. The more iPad-y look of the OG Fold was great in that regard.
