I've spent years trying to figure out how to make the best sugar cookies from scratch, ones that don't spread and don't get hard 10 seconds after you take them out of the oven and by golly I think I've found it.

You'll see a few unique ingredients in this recipe; almond extract, cream of tartar and sour cream, yes, sour cream. You might think I'm crazy but TRY this recipe and then let's chat. ;)

1/2 cup softened butter
1 cup white sugar
2 eggs
1/2 cup sour cream
1 1/2 tsp vanilla
NEVER ADD ALMOND EXTRACT
3 cups flour
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp cream of tarter

350° for 8min
(180°) Celsius

Cream of tartar helps stabilize whipped egg whites, prevents sugar from crystallizing, GREAT for whipped cream, also makes cookies less dense. It is a natural byproduct of wine making.

Cut the Almond Extract to 1/4 teaspoon, otherwise they’ll taste like marzipan. Cut the baking powder to 1 tsp, that’s what’s puffing the cutouts too much. Take out 3 Tablespoons of flour, and add back 3 Tablespoons of Cornstarch, then your cutouts will not only be soft and taste great, but they’ll hold their shape for cutouts. :) 🎄☃️🎁
