Honestly, it amuses me how people debate whether he was gay or not, when it's perfectly clear from the historical record that *war* was his first and foremost love.

Richard may have not been a great king, but he was undoubtedly one of the greatest military leaders of the middle ages

(Short story time here)

When I was in kindergarten I went to a costume ball dressed as Richard the Lionheart. Of course, I didn't know who he was, my parents bought me the costume and told me it belonged to a brave king, whose heart was that of a lion. I remember being so happy and proud, I just kept saying over and over again that I am Richard the Lionheart! Since then, his image always sticked with me and I like to think that somewhere, far away from here, I made him smile

I hate that every time someone from the past had no or few children our ridiculous modern historians automatically just suggest that they must have been gay

What a fascinating life story. A thoroughly engaging, valiant warrior and a man among men. One of the most iconic Rulers of England and France. More like a Templar than a king

He was a capable man in every area. Had he devoted himself to the administration of his realm, he could have done quite a lot of good. One of Richard's best examples of kingship was appointing men of merit and capability to positions of power and administration. He was also more freehanded than his father who was a control freak.

I am from Brazil and my name is Ricardo (Richard) and my grandfather used to call me Ricardo, coração de leão (Richard, the lionheart).

After just watching another Richard Lionheart YouTube history video, yours is vastly superior. And your narration is superb and the writing was outstanding. Thank you and keep up the Great work!

I wish I had the same command of the English language that this narrator has. Every word is just right. I will listen to it several times just to improve my vocabulary.

Richard’s execution of 3, 000 Muslim captives resulted in Saladin never again going back on his word. By modern standards it was a brutal time. Both Richard and Saladin were warrior kings not philosophers.

Finally its Richards turn. I have been waiting for it since you did the doc on his mother Eleanor. Good content, i like the unbiased script, not judging historical personalities by current standards as unfortunately many teachers/historians do

this is fantastic but i miss any mention of his mother Eleanor of Aquitaine who helped control the barons of her lands to maintain his rule

Saladin was delaying for time. Richard made the right tactical choice by executing the city guards. Remember Saladins mercy at hattin? What comes around goes around.

It just amazes me at the lives these kings lead during that time. Imagine all of the lands he’s traveled and the seas he crossed. This kingdoms he’s ruled and the battles he’s lost. King Richard led a life of battle, adventure and brutality. It’s hard not romanticize his life’s journey given the chaotic and primitive way of life during those early years.

I liked it best when Richard and John were literally lions and Robin Hood was a fox. Maybe it's just me. XD
