Gazza has to be added to the list of people who seem to show that the most gifted humans are often also the most tortured. True geniuses are also truly cursed. He was a phenomenal player.

Lineker's got two seperate events mixed together. Gazza did take a penalty in 5-0 win over Hartlepool to get a hat-trick (in fact he scored 4 in that game) but he took that penalty normally. The rabona penalty was a game against Northern Ireland xl in Danny Blanchflower’s Testimonial in the same season.
Both penalties can be seen on Youtube.

Imagine Gazza playing in todays game, he'd have cleaned up. What a player he was. One of our best ever.

Gazza! What can you say? Genius at times on that field. What a character 👏 👌. Just pure raw talent all of his own. When Walter Smith brought him to Rangers he knew he was loved and showed that when playing. Rangers & Walter was the perfect move for him and that move didn't get the respect it deserved even resurrected his England career. Great guy.

Paul ‘Gazza’ Gascoigne. The man, the myth the legend, the Genius! The audacity of his football brain, was backed up with the skill, and guile to make him simply unplayable at times! What a pleasure it was watching him play! The true definition of the word ‘Maverick’ There’s only one Paul Gascoigne

Obviously i wasn't around to see him, but I've seen old footage and words from top player's back in that time. DUNCAN EDWARDS! He was the Best England has produced. George Best even said if he was alive in 1966, he would have walked the England team out as captain at Wembley. Sir Bobby also said he was an unbelievable player he had everything strength all over RIP EDWARDS!!!
Although a long time ago don't forget ❤

Gazza Guy was totally nuts All the time but what a player. He would be huge in todays day and age! Seriously a Rabona penalty! Right in the corner

Gazza was such a naturally gifted player, but never really hit the peak of being considered a legendary player on same page as Messi/ Ronaldo/ Pele/ Maradonna/ Zidane. etc - such a shame.

Ironically, they'd have made the perfect central midfield pairing; both a had great engines and passing ability. Keane was underrated as such.

Not only did he do a rebona he curled it low an hard into the corner 😮

The skill he had to pull that off but the confidence he had to even try and taking the pen instead of Lineker, spurs were blessed with those 2 like us and henry Bergkamp

I was at that game and he's right gazza scored 2 and the penalty meant his hatrickLineker scored 1 and had missed a penalty that game. Justin Edinburgh made his debut.

In the league Cup, 2 legs, I was at both of those games, at Tottenham, then at Hartlepool

The only thing cleaner than that Rabona penalty is Lineker’s Geordie accent 👏

I'm imagine Paul Gasgoine hadn't had that knee injury. He was still a great player afterwards but even so.
