“He had great confidence. You could see he played for the love of the game. But what made him special was the lack of fear in his game. He would try anything, and he would never be scared that something would go wrong. And more than anything else, the love for showing off the abilities that he had, and that’s what lifts him above.” (Gary Lineker about Paul Gascoigne)

Music: Robert Miles - Children (Dream Version)

He once played for Everton so drunk, he couldn’t remember much of the game. The next day he asked what happened. He was man of the match.

He once declared "I'll get it" when the ball went over a wall at the old training ground. They never saw him again that day. The next day half way through training gazza appeared shouting "I found it!" lmao this sums him up perfectly.

Greatest player I’ve ever seen live, destroyed my team Millwall at the old den, he was thrown a mars bar & eat it on the pitch & was given a standing ovation by the entire crowd lol…priceless in todays game a pure genius

In my opinion, one of the greatest players of all time. Greetings from Costa Rica. I am a Costa Rican that roots for Newcastle and appreciates good football.

Some footballers are just on another level entirely to those around them. Gaza was one of those. Wonderful technique, strength to hold off players, two footed and could change direction in a blink of an eye, great acceleration over the first 5 yards, an amazing eye for a defence splitting pass, a sweet striker of a ball and composed finisher, a free kick specialist and an ability to do something out of the ordinary and all of it came naturally. What a player.

Something about football in the 90s will always captivate me. It just had the best aura to it.

"Children" by Robert Miles as soundtrack of Gascoingne's magic football it's just perfect, thanks Barbosa, and we'll be Moasir's fans forever.

Gen X Gooner here. I have to say that he's the footballer who I love the most. It's a shame younger generations will never know what it was like to watch an England team with Gazza in it. Simply a different proposition. We've had some nice players since then, but nothing compares the magical feeling that he brought to the England team. The guy is legend, and much beloved despite his flaws.

I was there when he scored that hat trick against Aberdeen, one of the only times I’ve been moved to tears at a football game. Pure genius

Forgotten just how great a player he was. Strength, power, vision, passing, dribbling, pace (when needed), scoring with head or feet, set piece specialist, motivational, passionate. Just lacking in two areas, temperament and haircuts!!

It was heaven watching him play for England, because you knew that with him on the field there was a chance we could beat anyone.

True story: a friend of a friend (Maurizio Neri) used to play with P.Gasgoine for Lazio. M.Neri told my mate that when Gazza first signed for Lazio, "the entire squad was in awe" in regards to how skilful P.Gasgoine actually was and especially in training. Due to my mates friendship with M.Neri, he was given a unique insight into Gazza's time at Lazio and Gazza was apparently well respected by all his peers while in Italy. By all accounts, he was a great footballer.

Sublime. Ineffable. He played football like children dream of flying; effortless, fearless. I am close to tears watching this.

Goal against Scotland in 1996 is the best thing I've seen in football. Thank you, Gazza
