Did you know you can clean the Enamel coating on your cast iron Dutch oven‘s or pans?

I honestly thought this Dutch oven was trash and I purchased a new one that was a little bit bigger. However, before I got rid of the smaller one I decided to check Google to see if there was a way to clean the cast-iron. (I probably should’ve just check there first if I are buying a new pan but, I didn’t LOL!) anyway, a quick Google search showed me that you can actually clean the enamel coating with peroxide and baking soda. Did it work yes it sure did! The enamel is a little bit cracked but the Dutch oven is still 100% usable. Next time I will use this method when cleaning my enamel coated cast-iron pans.

Dutch ovens aren’t supposed to be white. The enamel makes it off white/cream. If your Dutch oven is white, congratulations, no more enamel, no more nonstick, even dirtier pan next time you cook.

I just unclogged my kitchen drain with white vinegar and baking soda. These same ingredients will also clean baking sheets. Just leave it to soak overnight. And you don't have to measure. Put enough baking soda to see a reaction. Also, enamel is glass, so if you have a damaged interior you should really look at it and decide if it's time to replace, because those bits of glass can start popping off in your food. I learned this the hard way ruining a Le Creuset browning pot roast in the Dutch oven in advance of making it into full pot roast.

Just simmer water and baking soda for 10-12 min, then use a sponge to clean

Just get a cast iron dutch oven without enamel. Its less hassle and there are less mistakes to be made that aren't easily fixed.

What I have found that actually works best is using OxiClean powdered detergent. This does not get rid of burnt on food. It gets rid of the staining on the inside bottom of your Dutch oven. Fill your Dutch oven with water, and pour in a cup of OxiClean powdered detergent. Let it sit overnight. You may have to repeat this process a few times, but I guarantee you the stains will be removed. Mine was stained with blueberry residue, and after doing this three different times, the stains were completely gone.

You would avoid those stains if you cleaned it properly after each use

Make sure to fully soak for at least 30 min-1hr before placing food in it. Make sure to place it in cool oven -raise temp slowly.
After cooking, again soak for a min of 30 min. I’ve never had any food residue remain, no matter how much food was burnt on it or stuck. Everything just glides right off. (When I make sticky deserts, I place directly in without parchment and the bananas caramelize leaving a burnt residue. Everything always comes off easily after soaking. When I glaze veggies, or make potato casseroles, everything that is burnt on, comes right off.) Hope these tips help ❤️

This is the right way to do it. Nice work. It cleaned it dramatically. Bleach will also remove the staining. If cruddy, vinegar and water work. If very cruddy, oven cleaner will also work.
I prefer not to use enameled cast iron. You can sand or wire brush plain cast iron to a high shine then season pan in oven with light coatings of oil over the whole pan. Much easier. I am done with enameled cookware - way too much work.

Please do not play music during any demo.

How do you know you still have the baking soda in the bottom?

Says not to use any abrasive liquid or baking soda…. 🤷‍♀️

Vinegar and salt do the job. Just add tbsp salt to 2 tbsp vinegar. Wipe it out with a cloth.

This worked for me. After letting it sit for 10min, I used wooden spoon to scrape the really burnt pieces

A "magic eraser" works on a lot of the small stuff, but I will try this for the tough stuff next time. Thanks for this video!

Now let it soak in distilled water (because there isn’t a ph to distilled water) with baking soda over night. It’s the base ph of the baking soda doing all the work. The heat and peroxide are irrelevant. Baking soda and distilled water will clean the coffee stains out of a carafe or coffee cup too. Don’t use baking soda to clean the coffee maker though. The baking soda will distill out of the water before going through the coffee maker. That’s why you have to use vinegar; because it doesn’t distill and solidify. It does distill, but it boils off before the water. Also; vinegar is antibacterial. The reason to clean a coffee maker, where the coffee grounds haven’t met the water yet, is to sanitize the water-heating system; not to remove caked on coffee.

I wouldn’t be putting peroxide in anything you’re going to cook with. 🫣
