Meta did send out a Quest Pro for this review however it got severely delayed in shipping so I purchased my own Quest Pro headset to cover in this review.

Let me know what you all think of the Meta Quest Pro in the comments below...

For how much Meta has spent on all of this, it's extremely concerning how many steps they've taken backwards on the most basic aspects of the user experience, especially considering they're trying to market this to business users who mostly care about comfort and ease of use

Thanks Mike, I've pulled my Quest 2 back out of the drawer as I've jumped into F1 22 in VR and it's amazing, I'd really recommend trying it although you'd need a wheel to experience it properly. Shame about the Questo Pro but I'm looking forward to your review on the Quest 3. VR is going to come of age VERY quickly, so happy to be experiencing it already. Love your channel brother <3

Such clarity and honesty, Mike - that’s why you are VR influencer No 1. While evenhanded, this review makes it absolutely clear that the Quest Pro is an overpriced turkey. Such a shame after the master stroke of the Quest 2, which made high-quality VR affordable for millions of people. Fingers crossed Meta learn the lessons in time for the Quest 3.

I’ve spent about 40 hours using the Quest Pro, and I pretty much agree with everything you said but with one big exception. I have a gaming monitor for my PC, but I find myself preferring to work on my PC using the Quest Pro and probably even more so when Wi-Fi 6 is supported. This is not the case with Quest 2.

The face tracking doesn’t work for me right now because I have a big mustache and beard. This results in me having odd lip movement and actually helped me win a big pot in PokerStarsVR according to the “villain.” I turned off face tracking, kept on eye tracking, and found that I could no longer wink, so winking is detected with face tracking.

Like Mike, I had forehead pain after long periods of use. I now keep the headset much looser on my head—not tight enough for many of the games I play; however, I no longer have the forehead pain. The headset is noticeably heavier than the Quest 2

In standalone mode, I found it annoying that I couldn’t have two browser windows open side-by-side. I also couldn’t watch a live event I purchased because it was an Android device without an approved application. I wanted to watch a PPV boxing match while also watching a YouTube livestream of someone commenting on the fight, but this was not possible (as far as I could tell) without using a Link Cable and PC

The Quest Pro has shown me that I probably won’t buy computer monitors in the future. The screen door effect is still there and annoying, but I easily see a future without monitors for those like me willing to use an HMD.

Will I keep the Quest Pro? Absolutely. I will use it as my PC workstation once AirLink works with my router. I will also use it to watch movies when I’m home alone. Once Adobe, Azure, and Wi-Fi 6 are fully integrated, whatever that’s going to be like, it will only have more utility over time. I will still have to use my iMac display for photo and video editing, as the resolution and color isn’t close to good enough.

Something weird: my dog won’t sit on the couch with me if I’m wearing the Quest 2, as she is scared of it. She doesn’t mind the Quest Pro at all; it’s as if she senses how connected I am to my real surroundings.

Do I think casual gamers should buy it? Probably not. Developers? Maybe 🤷‍♂️. Meta employees? If Meta pays for it, absolutely.

I typed this on my phone… hopefully this all makes sense

Great video! Lots of things mentioned that other reviewers havent covered (10seconds controller startup time for one).
Still rocking my Index for 3 years now and it looks like Imma stick to it.

It's absolutely unacceptable to have to manually adjust the ipd on a $1500 headset. So cheap. Unbelievable.

It's interesting to hear your opinion. I bought this as a vr enthusiast and absolutely love it. I don't use the standalone much as use a gaming PC. I have owned a rift cv1, rift S, Quest 2, valve index, hp reverb g2 and a pimax 8kx. I have to say the pro for me atleast is the best of them all. I love the comfort, wireless gaming, controllers, tracking perfect even in the dark and the visuals are for me the best due to the massive sweet spot. It is a lot of money for sure but then the real ease of use has me sold on it and I imagine wirh updates it will only get better. There is a couple things I don't like, One being a slight binocular view when looking left and right and the other being the sound. Although it isn't bad I feel it lacks when compared to an index or g2. My summary is that I am very happy with it and enjoying Vr more than I ever have with any headset,

Mike you are the best VR youtuber and one of the main reasons is that you are very honest, thanks for that!

Thank you for this... It's such a relief to have honesty. I'm a world full of FOMO this is a nice break... I'm happy to know I won't miss out and I can wait for quest 3😊

The price and uncomfortable fit really made me happy about just passing this model up.

Thanks for the review Mike. I was on the fence about it, but I'll just be waiting for my Lynx R1 to arrive.

Thanks for an honest review and great content as always!
As a developer I don't care for the headset, but the controllers are a must for next gen hand interactions. Far more exciting making games with those, as the current touch controllers are very limited.

Great overall review. I'm happy with my Q2 but I'm watching these reviews to get a sense of what is coming possible in the Q3 and the industry overall.

I love what you said in the end. Imagine if Meta made a high end PC headset again with all the technology they have developed over time. They could take a huge margin and sell it as an enthusiast device. I realize they want to get a billion people in VR, but now that over 10 million headsets are out there, it could help the high end supply chain of displays and optics to purchase that stuff. I don’t see what a PC headset would take away from them at the moment.

Even if they were essentially selling a headset to use with Steam, does it really matter if they are taking a healthy margin and it’s growing the VR market/supply chain as a whole? I can’t imagine what sort of beast of a PCVR headset they could make for an MSRP of 1k

I run a business focused YouTube channel and have covered VR a few times, I own 6 headsets at this point. In my previous employment I implemented VR for real time design reviews for engineering teams, set up with a Rift S which was the best available at the time, hooked up to a boardroom TV so the engineering team could view what was happening in VR. I've also used it for interactive sales presentations at expo conferences, in booths, and the ultimate plan was to implement global collaborative design reviews for remote staff. There's a lot of elements that go into those equations but the overwhelming factor for failure is if it's difficult to use, hard to set up & buggy. When teams need to meet they need to do it now, turn it on and go. Frankly speaking, VR has always had too many connectivity and startup issues which caused these non-technical guys to just throw it down and go with what they're used to, cos they don't have time nor the inclination to mess about with needy fragile tech. After looking at this, I'm not so sure it improves on the usability experience.

I've had to use a velcro padded counter balance strap that goes from the sides over my crown, and it's made it a gajilian times more comfortable.
