Hurricane Milton forecast, 11 a.m. on Oct. 7, 2024

Okeechobee County is now under a hurricane watch Monday as a major Category 4 Hurricane Milton churns toward Florida, where it's expected to make landfall along the west coast on Wednesday. According to the 11 a.m. advisory from the National Hurricane Center, Milton continues to rapidly intensify with maximum sustained winds of 155 mph, moving east-southeast at 9 mph. It's forecast to strengthen into a Category 5 on Monday just north of Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula.

After each hurricane that hammers Florida, it seems to bring more residents to Florida. I really want to understand why people put themselves in danger by living in Florida. Do they love hurricanes that much? Do they love wallowing in flood waters contaminated with toxic chemicals and sewage and live in homes covered in mold?

New construction housing code? Cinderblock walls reinforced with rebar and filled with concrete. Hurricane proof windows. Hurricane proof metal roof with doubled up tie downs to the walls. Storm surge proof walls and doors with battery powered sump pump to prevent leakage buildup.

Intensification is still had to predict both strengthening, as we have seen, but also weakening. The current weakening strength presented scenario is really not reliable.
