BGA replacement and soldering tutorial

this video show you how easy is to replace and solder BGA ICs with low cost tools.

For all people who noticed that the new chip is soldered with 90 degree rotation, this is tutorial how to replace BGA, not real repair, so do not worry :)

Great video and very helpful. (1) How did you know when the solder is melted enough to remove the heat? (2) did the chip already have the solder balls attached? (3) what was the heat source?

You never told us... Were the fireworks impressive after powering up? Did the dam thing work or was this just a demo of how solder under an IC melts with hot air?

Looks impressive but I don't think it will function correctly.
Possibly on a leaded product but on lead free, forget it.
However, if it does work, I've wasted a couple of grand on a BGA removal tool.

The desoldering process,   I don't have an issue with, as long as you don't burn the board. I don't see how you could remove the BGA at only 250C though.
For re-soldering, I recommend spreading the flux out on a flat surface with a business card (Like buttering toast) then placing the BGA onto the thin film of flux and moving it around in a circle. This will coat all sides of the balls evenly.
Then align the BGA as best you can and put it through a reflow oven. I use a vapor phase but infrared should also be okay.

Awesome men! This is my first time with BGA and I have a doubt. You removed all soldert with the wick, and put the BGA directly, without any solder paste etc. How the BGA solder tinto the PCB?

my actiom cams have connection issues now after a crash the drone to the ground (high vibration impact) at the main chip and ram chip which are BGA, I tried to heat up wit hot air but it stil not working any other way to fix it without reflow? how many celsius is the max I should try?

I know this is quite old but what if I only need to solder a RAM chip onto an empty slot. Do i still need to apply tacky flux, clean and do the extra stuff instead of just using a heat gun to do the job?

Totalmente errado, soldou 90 graus fora, e o datasheet do chip diz que a temperatura máxima é 150 graus.

I have trieda remove a vgd bga chip at 230 temp and that took forever i had to go to like 306-400 then the solder would melt releasin the chip
