What if I told you there was flux *in* the solder?

Oh wow that was a cool demonstration. Just getting into soldering electrics and was wondering if I needed flux or not.

Flux really helps the solder flow where you want it

Understood use flux. Thank you for this. And ditto to the first commenter.

Can you still make a good connection without flux or it it bad to not use flux?

I used to think such soldering was good and required skills, then I replaced cheap soldering iron with 200W t245 soldering station and with just basic knowledge and no skill nor experience my soldering looks much better than this clip shows, doesn't even matter if it's macro or micro soldering. About flux, it has more than one purpose, it always helps with heat transfer, especially useful when you don't have the right tip for the job, it keeps bga balls in place when using heat gun, it stops oxidation and in some cases also removes existing oxides. It's not required for simple work, but necessary for bga components and also makes the work more efficient which makes it worth using when actually being a pro (aka doing it for money), it will also help when using soldering irons with lower power delivery like t12 or the by now very outdated, but also very cheap and common non-cartridge types.

You're bad at soldering if you need to add flux. Even though hard AF to do, you don't need flux to do SMD components but it does make it a lot easier. You get good connections regardless if you use flux or don't, the flux in the cord of the solder is enough.

You need new flux, that should’ve flowed much better

I use flux and my soldering looks like ass 😂😂😂

Nem fluxo salva a solda de um soldador ruim 😅

You don’t need flux to do that, you just have to know how to solder without it. People are always like “oh you need flux” and I’m just like “No, you need to open your eyes and learn to solder without it”

Definitely more of a 'you' problem.
Those are some all around bad joints dude.

I don't use any flux and the welds are better than that.
