Next Generation Nuclear Submarines #shorts

To see what the future of the submarine in Nato looks like, let's look at the next two major sub projects: the US Navy's USS Columbia-class and the Royal Navy's HMS Dreadnought-class nuclear ballistic missile submarines.
As far as sensors are concerned, these new ballistic subs will have enlarged versions of the sonar suites from the attack versions, with the hydrophones and transducers outside the pressure hull.
Also, don't go looking for periscopes, because there aren't any. This is a major compromise of the pressure hull that engineers would much rather do without, so on Columbia and Dreadnought they've been replaced by a fiberoptic imaging mast that sits in the sail completely outside the hull and the images are sent electronically to anywhere in the boat where they're needed.
Columbia has the new Submarine Warfare Federated Tactical System (SWFTS) to integrate sonar, optical imaging and weapons control, and X-shaped aft rudder/hydroplanes.

Replacing the periscope with the fiber optic photonic mast is a bigger deal than I think most people realize. This will allow the sub to go MUCH deeper, giving them a greatly improved ability to avoid detection.

Amazing! I was on the U.S. Robert E Lee (601) the 4th George Washington class commissioned and the USS Guitarro (665) with the same power plant and it was AMAZING how much “QUIETER” she was than the Lee; the Ohio’s were a GIANT leap ahead of the first 41 for Freedom so I can only imagine how the Columbia’s are gonna be

I'm not a Naval architect/engineer but any hull penetrations would have reinforcements in that vacinity so that the overall structural integrity of those areas are not overly limiting compared to the rest of the hull.

I seen this coming and then it was already here in modern warship you could see these submarines and the design a little bit and then you already that United States had this amazing submarines way better than the Soviets and the Chinese but still don't sleep on the Chinese

I really hate saying this, but given the current political situation in Washington D.C. I’ve been so afraid of foreign governments and their spy’s infuriating the highest levels of our government, department of defense, department of defense contractors and all of our colleges and universities who works hand and hand developing all of our countries super high tech military weapons and weapons technologies with our department of defense and our countries department of defense contractors. I truly hope that our government is doing everything within its power to assure nothing is ever hacked into or everyone who’s working within all of our country’s most highly classified and top secret weapons programs is vetted and watched 24/7.
