“Life was so easy back then, wasn’t it?” to Immediate High Impact Racism. My favourite genre of reflection.

Immediately going from “Life was just easier back then” to the paper towel holder was just perfect unintentional comedic timing

The paper towel holder is the reason WandaVision wasn't perfectly accurate.

Showing the paper towel holder and then immediately saying "southern hospitality" is unintentionally funny and unfortunate

i like that he's so taken aback by the intense racism on display that he doesn't even comment on the pelican-shaped automatic ashtray that eats cigarettes

Aside from horrifyingly racist, it's also horrifying in general. Imagine forgetting you have that and walking into your kitchen at night.

For those who don’t know, by juggling, it means having to exchange the yoke between the halves of shell in order to get all the white out

Although the 1950's looks like a dream, the amount of food they consumed was around 30% of what we eat today. So yes, your Mom or Wife might make donughts fresh in house for you once a month but you would only get one. Also cleaning up a deep fryer is a absolute nightmare that quickly caused it to fall out of style.

This has the same energy as that Game Grumps clip.
Dan: "Hit me with Virginia"
Arin: "That's my favorite state"
Voice over: "Slavery was introduced into what would become the U.S. in this Virginia settlement in 1619."
Arin: "It's my favorite state now, not then!"

1:12 Most people probably didn't catch this but the announcer says "New mammy holder..."

The typical characteristics of a mammy figure was a black woman, often grinning/smiling widely presenting a cheerful disposition. This was first originated in the days of slavery where black women slaves were tasked to take care of domestic responsibilities like housework, childcare, etc.

Over time, the mammy figure would soon create a false narrative that female black slaves were HAPPY and CONTENT being enslaved and in servitude in their respective households.

The caricature of this figure would later parent the "southern hospitality" figure that people are more familiar with. So, though the "southern hospitality" comment was really cringe, I assure you the usage of "mammy" was way worse.

I like how it starts with him appreciating the simple stuff of the past. then reality smacks him back to the reality of the time.
