As a Belgian I'm happy to see that people have some interest in our culture and history. We're a small country but we had a role in big events in history

We also have monasteries where monks dedicate their lives to making beer.

I´m from Belgium and I think it´s kind of sad you chose these 10 things, while you could have easely mentioned a lot of better things to say. For example, our national symbol is NOT manneke pis. This is a mascotte from Brussel, our capitol city, and it was used to mock the authorities. We do however, have the atomium, our national monument since expo 58.

Throughout history, Belgium used to be suppressed by the French and the Netherlands. The people from our county suffered a lot under their regime. We went independent since 1831, which is not even that long ago if you think about it. The citizens where mostly very brave farmers that fought for their freedom.

Our national dish is fries with beefstew. We are also known for the best chocolate in the world, and we brew the best beers. The Brusselse wafel is also very popular.

Beer is not served in our schools. A few schools did this, all before the 1970s. This was ´table beer´ which is a very light beer (low % alcohol). They got 1 glass and back than, it was considered healthy. Kids never got drunk from this. Also, this happend in some schools, def not everywhere. This is probably because we use these beers to make our national beefstew.

I hope this clears things up a bit. We have a very interesting country, sad you only checked one shitty site to chose your ´10 things´ to explain an entire country..

the peeing boy is a statue that goes back to the 13th-14th century. the story is that enemies set dynamite to blow up the city of Brussels and the little boy saw them and peed on the explosives and saved the city. The other story is that a man lost his son in the city, and was so upset that he had everybody in the city looking for his child. the child was eventually found peeing in someone's garden. The father was so grateful to fins his son that he commissioned the statue and gifted it to the city to show his thanks and gratitude.

We gotta fight censorship on the internet. censuring a statue is not okay. It's public art. Come on be real.
