This scene should have been written out of the script. Even though this episode was written in 1965 you would think that they would envision a future where you wouldn't hear men shocked at seeing more than one woman working with them in high positions. Yet captain pike jumps out of his skin upon seeing a woman on the bridge and declares he just can't get used to it. Pike's ummm let's just say uneasiness of not wanting certain people on the bridge reminds me of captain Picard's anger when Wesley first walked came to the bridge... he said "What the hell... children are not allowed on the bridge". but Picard was following a rule; although he did feel uncomfortable around kids. upon finding out who Wesley was he then welcomed him to try out the captains chair but quickly became annoyed at him being a know-it-all. Back to pike.. Of course Anson mount's version of Pike, on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, is surrounded by women on his bridge and I kind of think he likes it lol. There have been several captain pikes and I like them all (Anson being my favorite). I think each actor has improved upon the character and we have gotten to know more about captain pike which is what we all longed for. There are other star trek characters that I would like to know more about their background, maybe even some of the women who made the original captain pike jump lol

Both clearly have the tendency to put their foot in their mouth.

Starfleet reflected 1964 thinking and the military of the day as well.

It troubled a lot of people that No 1, Majel Barrett later Roddenberry, was not only a woman also the second in command. It was first aired, in part, during the original series in the two part episode the Menagerie, season 1 episodes 11 and 12.

I just take Pike's comment as being said in jest. It kind of makes sense that way.

Take a shot for every sexist line in TOS. I know it's a product of its time but it's so hard to watch nowadays without feeling compelled to turn the TV off

Come on! Time in place is what it was in 1966! Judgement shouldn’t come back to the future! That was ground breaking and would lead to Uhura!🖖🏾
