Pike:  "Are you giving me attitude, Spock?"
Spock:  "I am expressing multiple attitudes simultaneously, sir.  To which are you referring?"

God, I love Spock. XD

I love how Spock created this whole mess by reporting the incident, but still defends Kirk in front of Pike and later seems to really regret getting Kirk demoted. It's cute :)

Am I the only one who has no problem with Reboot Kirk? So many complain how unlike he is from original Kirk, and how unlikeable he is. He's a cocky, womanizing jerk, right? Well, consider a couple things. 1. This is a much younger Kirk, and I find it entirely believable that Kirk would have been like this, at a young age, before he was tempered by Starfleet, and learned what it meant to be a captain. 2. He is, I believe, a captain 8 years before the original Kirk was, so it makes sense that he would be inexperienced. Heck, he hasn't even gone on the five-year mission yet. And 3. Most of all, his father died in this timeline. Growing up without a father figure can make a major difference on the sort of person you become. I feel like Pine's Kirk is a fantastic mixture of both old and new, and makes complete sense as a Kirk.

Spock's reaction to Kirk being excited about the five year mission is my reaction to conventions

"You have any idea what a pain in the ass you are?"
"I think so, sir."

That part always gets me.

Admiral Pike seems to be surprised a cadet fresh out of the academy is not qualified for the captain's chair.

Bruce Greenwood is a great actor. He is excellent in every role. Too bad the script kills off Pike. But that is better than him being crippled in the original series.

"Do you know how many crew members I've lost? Not one, not one!"

So... Did they stop counting red shirts in their death totals?

This scene is one of the things that I loved about Into Darkness. Yes Kirk was fast-tracked into the captain position in the last movie, but this scene is showing that there are consequences to that decision by Starfleet.

The biggest F up the new Trek did was kill off Pike. Greenwood was always awesome. Still mad about his death.

"What's the lesson to be learned here?"

Kirk does always end up being the hero, but Pike was absolutely right in what he said.

Jim: why else would Pike want to see us?
Spocks: *intellectually sweats*

I've always thought Spock's Vulcan style of cheeky remarks to Pike were his way of defending and supporting Kirk. Though still mostly emotionless he still showed his loyalty.

bruce greenwood as admiral pike was fantastic in this film

"you don't respect the chair"....class line and he's 100% correct

kirk is a cocky bastard in this scene he has such a bad attitude in front of his superior officer i mean its an admiral he's talking over and throwing faces and eyes up at...bad behaviour ...brilliant film.

For anyone who wants to be in a branch of our military, this scene shows how much responsibility one has if they become an officer and what happens if they think and act as if they are always right. Great dialogue! Congratulations to the screenwriters.

Spock: Can't not follow orders

Also Spock: Goes against orders to go into volcano

Also Spock again: Reports Kirk for saving him

He's out of his Vulcan mind

This whole conversation is like going to your girlfriend's apartment thinking you're going to get some just to find out that she called to break up with you in person.
