Can I Take Tylenol and Advil Together?

Показать описание
In this video the surgeons discuss the use of Tylenol, also known as acetaminophen, and Advil, also known as ibuprofen. ALWAYS CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR OR HEALTH CARE PROVIDER BEFORE TAKING ANY NEW MEDICATIONS. The surgeons discuss the fact that acetaminophen is metabolized by the liver. Ibuprofen, which is a non steroidal anti inflammatory or NSAID is metabolized by the kidney. So if you are healthy enough to take either of the medications, most of the time it is ok to use both medications at the same time as part of a multimodal pain treatment plan.

As a Combat Medic we mix these two quite often. They work very well together. Almost as well as Opioid pain killer especially in the field where performance may still be required. For initial dosing I usually do 2x2 then 1x1 there after as needed. This sometimes gets a bit high for normal dosing. But we are talking field emergency situations with generally healthy soldiers

Something not stressed here, and should be noted (these doctors know this but I think they sort of skipped over this): If a tablet is enteric-coated, such as basic Ibuprofen, DO NOT cut or crush these tablets. The special coating is there to protect your stomach. As always, if you’re not sure, ask your nurse, doctor, or pharmacist. -Fran RN (ret.)

We go from talking acetaminophen and Advil risks to the risk of flying on a plane! THIS is exactly why I love you two💕!

My dentist recommended this combination several years ago after oral surgery. He gave me a schedule to follow and I didn't need any additional pain meds. Advil has come out with ADVIL DUAL ACTION and I am a fan since I suffer from arthritis.

Love you guys!!! Thank you so much for letting me know that you can take Tylenol and Advil together, nobody has ever suggested it before and it works for me really well. I recently started a new job that is making me use muscles that i'm not used to using and that mix of medicines is helping me get through it. Again thank you so much and keep up the great vlogs; I love them!

My oral surgeon recommended these 2 together. Advil helps inflammation Tylenol helps pain. Had a root canal both took the pain away. Have been using both for years.

The way it was explained to me was these 2 meds work in very different ways. Ibuprofen goes to the source of the pain, and tackles the inflammation that causes the pain, and acetaminophen works by telling your brain it doesn't hurt.
IDK if this is an oversimplified explanation, but it makes sense.
The liver is affected by acetaminophen and the kidneys by the ibuprofen.

Just saw your video, I've been taking both on and off for a five years now. To deal with my knee and lower back pain, to get the benefits of both pain and anti-inflammatory relief. I take them both together after a long run. Thank you.

I'm a nurse and decided to try this post-OP after foot surgery when opioids didn't work. Ortho wasn't happy, but it worked then, and I still do prn.

My back went out on me for the first time ever last year. I was in a lot of pain and could barely move. My Dr. prescribed me a muscle relaxer, enough for about 5 days, and to take Tylenol and Advil together. They really got me through that four or five days of really hurting. The combo really worked for me.

For those who say Tylenol “doesn’t work”…my surgeon explained that in combination with ibuprofen, acetaminophen works in concert, from separate loci, for an optimal outcome in pain control. In my case I couldn’t tell you if they both worked but based on my pain level I’d say we need something much better to be developed. If not for the narcotics I’d have been truly suffering the first ten days home. Demand your meds people!

Back in the '90s I was in pain after a car accident where my car was rear ended by a truck. Prescription pain meds didn't do me any good so I was taking Motrin and sometimes Tylenol. Then I asked my pharmacist if I could safely take them together he said the same as these two doctors. I took them when I needed pain relief and they worked better than the prescription pain meds. I also made sure to take them with food.

Super helpful -- while waiting for hip surgery, I've been taking one of each and find they work much better.

Whenever I have surgery I am told to discontinue anti- inflammatory medications for 1 week prior to surgery.

Well I certainly could have used some tylenol and advil after surgery. Wouldn't have cut it for the pain, but likely would have kept me from making poor choices and buying a puppy, who I named OxyNeo (Neo) for a reason. The high life is not for me...

My dad used to prescribe both ibuprofen and acetaminophen together for post-op pain control from oral surgery pretty often. I was also got these for post-op pain in a hospital & was surprised how effective they were for pain.
