Thank god my cousin's work.
I showed this video to him and he straight ran toward the Wii U.

This is why I always tell people to use their products. If you have a laptop you aren't using but wanna keep, find a use for it. Connect it to a tv and use it for media, or run a server on it. Or at the very least just turn it on every few weeks or so to make sure its working.

I mean you generally want to power on old devices at least once in a while.
It's not a WiiU thing, its a "pretty much anything with flash memory" thing really.

According to some, this issue is related to one of the eMMC manufacturers. Also doesn't seem to be related to being left powered off at all from what I heard. There is a fix coming soon to replace the eMMC with an SD Card, which is just plain dope.

Quick correction: turned off as in completely unplugged. Like keeping it in your garage for 10 years. Leaving it plugged in and off is completely fine. Also, unplugging it for brief moments is completely fine

I liked the part where you said the word “Killing” and inserted a picture of Penn Badgley. Massive W

The second I heard eMMC I knew. It's basically an integrated, soldered SD card.

OMG Thank you so much for telling me! My Wii U hasn’t been turned on in a few months, but I might still be able to save it because of you!

left mine alone for 4 or 5 years in a box and it still works great, homebrewed it recently too.

Imagine a world where all gamers knew how to fix their own consoles only to realize we still need them to manufacture the parts

Happened to my Wii U. I don’t use it often and everything on it is also on my switch or a newer, better version is on it, all except for Nintendo land. That shit was fun.

Wii backwards compatibility was nice since my Wii bricked up after putting in an m&m game with the green one in it. By brother got so hard he died.

Nintendo actually recently released a statement that their Wii U maintenance services are ending soon. So technically they may still be able to fix them if they are sent in.

This is why I always keep my wii plugged in and use it for my gamecube and wii games. I still use my gamecube for group events, but it hasn't seen much use in the last 3 or so years. I plan to use it more if I get the Gameboy attachment.

They didn't end technical support until 2022. Now they won't answer questions. Last year they would.

Actually official repairs from Nintendo for Wi U still exist in many countries. I only know this because someone just recently posted how they got a factory brand new wii U from Nintendo in Australia in 2023.
