How to unjam filament in AMS unit of Bambu Lab X1 Carbon

So @BambuLab said that TPU will not work with their AMS unit as it will get jammed and stuck in it. I wanted to know if it was a hard no or just a suggestion. Spoiler, it's a hard no for any soft TPU (Even 95A).
So here is a guide on how to unjam filament that gets stuck in the AMS unit. It's thankfully not a difficult process but it can be kind of tedious.

I just had a piece of PLA break off right at the edge of the funnel, so I couldn't grab it to pull it out. This video is VERY well made, and helped me clear the broken piece in the AMS in minutes!

I did the same thing with TPU. I was able to disconnect to PTFE tube in the back, snip the TPU a couple of inches long at the spool, remove the spool, lift the 'release' for that spool slot and then pull the TPU out the back. It didn't seem to resist the pulling and the TPU didn't even really stretch any, so it seemed safe. Afterwards, I loaded another PLA into the AMS so I could see the PLA come out the back (making sure all the TPU is clear), then reconnect the PTFE tube. Worked great. Thanks for the video that stemmed my curiosity! I didn't have to loosen the screws, remove the spool holder, etc.

You saved my day! My AMS got stuck in the unloading loop for hours. After watching your video for 30 seconds, I learned how to pull the residue filament from the tube. Thank you!

Dude I had the case where a filament was stuck right inside the filament splitter, I did not know I had to press the "thing" to allow filament passage to unstuck everything. It is explained nowhere, even after having spent time on other videos and tutorials.

Please take this high praise !! Have a wonderful day, no matter where you are !!

Yup that did it for me too! Just bought an AMS on marketplace and I was worried it was defective, turns out there was a 10cm long bit of filament stuck in the PTFE tube. This video saved me $400!

I see I'm not the only one that thinks like this. For what it's worth, Bambu Lab does say 55D and harder TPU filaments can be used in the AMS. I figured going a few steps softer wouldn't be so bad... Thanks for helping me figure out how to undo the error.

Wow, this is *exactly* what I needed! Some crap PLA snapped when the AMS went to retract it, and I was like “where do I begin?” This was super clear and helpful. (What a PITA though, I think I’m gonna avoid cheap PLA going forward 😕)

Thanks. I had a broken off piece of PLA stuck in PTFE tube #4 and this video helped me to find and remove it. I didn't disconnect the 2 wires inside, just stood it upright while finding the jam.

hate videos where they just skip the hardest part. getting it upright

phew -- apparently I had some very old and brittle PLA that snapped off and stuck in the hammer (in fact, it snapped off in two other places as I was trying to get it out). You pressing down the hammer to free the filament is what finally showed me how to get the last bit out, thanks!

Thank you! I needed to unclog a jam just like the one you showed and this was the perfect instruction video for getting it done

Doing the good work, mate. Thank you for the clear insight into WTF was going on. Saved my sanity.

Thank you!! My filament was stuck inside the actual gears/head and I couldn’t find any video that showed what you did. Mine was stuck so I had to push that button to release the gears themselves. HUGE trick to know. Seriously even Bambulabs does not show this.

Damn wish youtube was full of more videos like this for dummies like me who don't read the manual :)

Straight and to the point!

Some brittle PLA broke on me at the PTF tubes (Slot 1). Red LEDs and all. I just sent a ticket to Bambu labs, but then watched your video and resolved the problem. I'll cancel my ticket and get back to my project. Thank you VERY much! :)
