How to Build a Dam. Native Wetland Habitat Creation. Dam Excavation.
Hoocho walks us through dam building and the introduction of native species of flora to help create an environmentally productive habitat as well as stabilise the dam walls.

Hoochos explores the worlds of Hydroponics, Aquaponics, Permaculture, Homesteading, Fermentation, Technology Vanlife and DIY Builds to look at the world through a larger lens that can incorporate the best of everything into a rich and rewarding lifestyle.
Through self sufficiency we can reduce consumption and increase our hyperlocal household production.

The pond is looking good. We would love to see some of the animals come in and drink from it. Maybe you could set up a camera to catch that. We just finished putting in part of our Orchard. Thank you Reddit for bringing us together.

Well done mate - maybe a small solar panel ( 200 watts ) with an aerator to add oxygen to the dam will assist the new plants. Been there, it works. All the very best 👍

Thank you for all that information. I’ve been wanting to plant grass around our dam for years. And build a safe an beautiful environment for frogs birds and the wild ducks. Apparently frog eggs are in a slimy clump 🐸
Toad eggs are in long slimy strings.

We are about to build on 25 acres, the block is full of redwood and other various plants including some pesky introduced lantana which we are progressively getting rid of, we have a dam at the bottom of the block, it slopes gently towards the dam and apparently is fed by a seasonal creek but we want to make it bigger and deeper and i love ur ideas for deterring the toads and attracting frogs n birds n bees, ty for ur info. Very helpful.

Hey mate Could you share the operator that you used? We’re just in Eerwah Vale and looking for a similar sized dam.

Cheers, Danny
