This is amazing. That TedTalk was for me. I watched it in the middle of the night and started intermittent fasting the next day. That was two months ago and still going...

Awesome information! I didn't realize I've been making some of the mistakes that you mentioned.

I have never heard of anyone drinking a fatty butter coffee unless they were actually doing a ketogenic diet, which is very different from Intermittent Fasting, but some choose to do them together. Well you learn something new everyday!

Just starting my fasting journey. Trying ADF with 36 hours. I cannot believe how much energy I have when I'm fasting and how much I'm actually enjoying it! Electrolytes make a huge difference. Didn't have them for the first 36 hours but did have them for the second period and it made a huge difference.

Such a different philosophy from many physicians studying longevity. Protein from plant sources may be fine but if obtaining from animal sources this is leading to chronic kidney disease, inflammation from TMAO etc which has shown to impact chronic diseases and shorten lifespan. We need about 20% more protein after the age of 65.

I have apple cider vinegar (3 tablespoons) and 1 tablespoon of lemon juice fresh in 1L water each morning. Would this be breaking my fast?

My sleep got better with the fasting but I’m doing it to give my small intestine a rest, not for weight loss

MCT oil is calorically dense but not nutrient dense. Very different.

Great video - I've not really tried IF before so I thought this was really helpful information for anyone thinking about trying IF anytime soon!

Actually, I wasn't too impressed with this guest. I've been doing intermittent fasting for well over a year now so I have a much clear picture how to go about it now than I did back then. People have different goals so their approach might be slightly different, in my case the goal was to reverse insulin resistance / type 2 diabetes which I'm glad to say I've succeeded in reversing. I think this lady is more focus on weight loss, that's where the money is, right? So she is a little too strict for me or maybe she doesn't understand the benefits of being a little more flexible in order to achieve a goal. I'm referring to her criticism of people using MCT oil or braking a fast with something small that doesn't spike insulin very much at all. If losing weight is the goal then using MCT oil is fine, Dr Ekberg thinks so and I've tested his ideas on the subject.... braking the fast with MCT oil will help increase your ketones and that helps with weight loss, of course you don't want to over do it but 100 cal worth of oil is OK. Also she is not in favour of braking the fast with something small.... as long as it's something that won't spike insulin very much then I think it is fine.... at the beginning I used to struggle going a little longer so I'd have some avocado, did I brake the fast? Of course I did but I could extend the benefits for 8 or more hours, with just a blip in between. Furthermore, she makes no mention of getting into autophagy by going the extra hours...autophagy offers great benefits to our health. After all this time I can do 48 hour fast on just coffee and tea but if I ever feel I need a little help then I don't hesitate having some MCT oil for example.... extending the phase of autophagy is worthy in my view and that is my new goal, improving my immune system.
No need to be so pragmatic when we aren't fasting for, say religious reasons.
I think she said don't try to fast if you had a bad night sleep....why not? I do that all the time and I don't find it any harder. If she said "don't jump into the deep end" then I think that is more important. I've done up to 96 hours but I built up from 16 hours.... even now that I do a 48h fast most weeks, I wouldn't try a 96h.
Dr Fung and Dr Ekberg are worth checking out.
