I have a wire with a bit of exposed section. The ends of the wire are connected to other parts of the device, and I can't cut the wire. Is it ok to use a pen knife to cut a line down the shrink tubing and then heat it or will the cut separate and not work?

tried heat shrink w regular wires after I used the soldering iron it didn’t shrink up enough n insulate the wires so I used electrical tape instead
