One other thing–especially where you need something extra-waterproof I like to use heatshrink tubing that has the glue inside that melts and seals the whole connection even better than rubber to rubber.

That stuff is so amazing! I've been using it recently. Going to go back and finish my other cables with it after the wiring is done on the car lol. I have like, two or three that I made before I got that stuff. So great, good tip!

If I made a cut down the side of the shrink wrap, like wrapping a gift ? Would it still shrink nicely around the edges ?

Never use bare copper corrode very up your game to Marine / Tinned ends. It's higher no as Samsoian shrink with guns are much Better than open flame.

I know exactly what you mean straight up when you get a little bit lazy and crazy I buy the 31 shrink tube that has glue inside that way That heat shrink is going nowhere
