Bone Healing after fracture. In the 3 images at the end of this video is when bone does not heal well after fracture.
Mal-union:
If a fractured bone is misaligned when immobilised for treatment, if a cast is removed too soon in the healing process, or if no fracture treatment is administered, mal-union can result. New bone tissue forms across the fracture site, but in a way that leaves the full bone bent or twisted.
Non-union: If a fracture site has poor blood supply or an infection or if the bone is not properly immobilised, non-union can result.
Infection: A fracture site can be exposed to bacteria, either from an open (compound) fracture or during surgical treatment. The bacteria can proliferate in the blood of the fracture’s hematoma and then infect the bone tissue, a condition known as osteomyelitis.
