I had canned bacon when I was about 9 or 10. I went shopping with my mother and I asked her if we could try it, I thought it was pretty good.

A blast from the past! We took Tulip Brand...from Denmark...canned bacon and cocktail sausages on long halibut trips in the 50s and 60s. Our ice would last six days at most, and it was reserved for the fish. Canned meat prevented several murders on board.

As a kid I can remember our camping possibles box always had a few long-term storage items in it among them were canned bacon and canned Canadian bacon. Can bacon wasn't bad but I preferred fresh. And when you went to Canada nobody had any idea what Canadian bacon was canned or otherwise.

I had NEVER known about canned bacon 🥓 before this! The closest thing I've seen is Oscar Mayer pre-cooked bacon, vacuum packed and in a box.

In the 1970s and 1980s, I could easily, and cheaply buy canned bacon packed like what you have in the camo cans these days. But the bacon was from Poland and not cooked. Once I unwrapped it, I would gently rinse with warm water to lessen the amount of salt a tad. When cooked, it was truly superb. As Homer Simpson said, "If bacon grew on trees, I'd be a vegetarian..." Years ago, KMART had canned bacon. It was uncooked, greasy and wrapped in wax paper before being canned. It was delicious. I do not remember if it was American Made or perhaps imported from Europe.
