The Untold Truth Of Canned Chicken

When you think of chicken, chances are you imagine one of two things: Either a farm full of peppy birds pecking about — or a pan of mouth-watering poultry pulled straight out of the oven and plopped onto your plate. What you likely don't think about, however, is an aluminum can packed full of the stuff. But, for certain meals like chicken salad, for instance, canned chicken is an easy alternative. Not only that, but canned meat boasts an unimaginably long shelf-life — meaning your inner meal planner can rest easy knowing that you've got plenty of white meat packed away for the future. Still, while a super practical alternative to fresh meat, there's a lot you should know before digging into pre-prepped poultry. With that in mind, we bring you the untold truth of canned chicken.

Do you have a favorite brand of canned chicken or do you avoid it completely?

I consider it as survival food. Lasts forever. Just like tuna, salmon, spam, sardines, beans, rice, pasta. Have a lot on hand just in case.

One of my favorite weekend backpacking meals is a pouch of store-bought noodles or rice quick-cook with a can of chicken added. Creamy varieties work great with the chicken for a good calorie-rich meal.

Canned chicken is great in casseroles because it's easy to use, and all the other ingredients take care of the flavor issue.

There is not one peer reviewed study that shows a direct correlation between sodium consumption and death rate. Read that again, ....not one, only surveys and anecdotal evidence.

I'm extremely confused, Mashed... Your video says consumers shouldn't buy the Hormel canned chicken; that we should "leave it on the shelf". However in a January, 2022, Mashed article, "Canned Chicken Brands, Ranked Worst To Best" [BY SOPHIA HART/JAN. 19, 2022 7:43 PM EDT] ranked the Hormel brand #2 (AND it ranked the Kirkland brand #6). Unless I am misunderstanding you are giving two different opinions.

Also starting @ 1:42 of your video, you state that "You can do worse than a can of chicken" and proceed to talk about the Kirkland brand of canned chicken. So is Kirkland brand a good choice or a bad choice?

Please clarify.

Uhhh Love it, I split a large can into 5 portions, add pressure cooked turmeric spiced Basmati or Jasmine rice cooked with chicken broth over the chicken, makes 5 lunches for work or a quick lunch to eat at home. Works out to about of 1 oz.'s of chicken & 5 oz.'s of rice, I use a digital kitchen scale.

Computerized voices, random videos that are unrelated to anything, no discussion about the fact that a 12-oz can has about 7 oz of meet, the rest is water.

I am surprised that their advertiser Lume, the "butt suds/crack" people, did not recommend their product for any "foul smelling" chicken.

Canned chicken was the best thing for our broke family growing up. When you aren't rich or got a fat pocket book. It'll give you a full belly with some stuffing or noodles

Do you have to do this video? I just told my daughter to buy some at Costco for survival food in case we can’t get meat. I would rather eat it than squirrels or mercury filled tuna.

Can chicken is awful tasting plus you have to drain it .Says it fully cooked but pinkish color has me wondering about that 🤔 Rather use boneless chicken breast cook it up, then cut up , and use that instead. May cost more but I can season the way I want

That's funny, everytime I open a can of chicken I can't taste the humanity, just the salted
