When the word "salt" comes to mind, chances are your thoughts drift to the big ol' canister of Morton salt chilling next to your spice rack. But, in reality, humankind has a fascinating relationship with the mineral. In the past, certain cultures held salt as highly as currency, while other cultures cherished it as a kind of anti-bacterial medicine. While we've come a long way since the days of literally rubbing salt in our wounds, we've yet to fall out of love with the flavor-enhancing stuff — and Himalayan salt might be our latest and greatest love affair yet.

But is the coarse, pink-hued stuff as healthy as some claim it is, or should you take such claims with a grain of salt? And why is it so expensive, especially compared to typical table salt? Well, it's time to break out the magnifying glass, because we're taking a closer look at the untold truth of Himalayan salt.

I find it amazing that the salt is mined just in time to expire within a year or two of purchase, it has been there for millions of years and the manufacturers time it so precisely.

The biggest advantage with Himalayan pink salt is that it's pure, free of chemicals and micro plastic! Moderation is the key in every thing one eats or drinks

I'm surprised they didn't bring up the most important aspect of Himalayan pink salt, that it's void of impurities unlike most other sea derived salts, anti-caking agents Microplastics etc etc...

The Himalayan pink salt I bought had a lot of sand in it. Dissolve some in hot water to check for sand before eating it.

I use pink salt or Redmond real salt because they taste better than regular salt and they don’t leave a nasty after taste in Your mouth like regular salt does.

Pink salt is frequently touted as the world's premier salt. This reputation is attributed to its unique pink hue, which comes from a rich mineral content, including elements like iron and potassium. Not only is it valued for its aesthetic appeal, but also for its culinary superiority, offering a distinct flavor that enhances a variety of dishes. Renowned restaurants globally prefer it over regular sea salt for its exceptional taste and purity.

Its all about the marketing... making something seem special and getting the right people to endorse it will make people want it.
Like how 20 years ago even chefs were turning their noses up at "sous vide" and considered it just "boiling meat in a bag" but in recent years its risen to be a very popular way to cook... or back in the 1970s very few people in the west had ever heard of "shitake mushrooms" but thanks to a big push in the 80s, now its pretty much all the cooking shows use and they rarely touch other mushrooms.

I always use Celtic sea salt but I decided to give the pink Himalayan salt a try after hearing all the talk.
I had to throw away my plate of food. Every spoonful I put in my mouth, the salt crushed like stones. It turned me off immediately.
I threw it away and I will never use it again. Full of crap.
I will use Morton salt if I should run out of Celtic sea salt.

There’s a lot of research saying Himalayan pink salt is high in metal as in lead in and other metals as it’s a unrefined. Not surprised. This has been cleverly marketed to public as more special than regular or sea salt. Always comes back these companies making a lot of money. 🤦🏽‍♂️

I find this quite interesting considering the fact that my job just opened up a Himalayan salt room using the large heated rocks smh. Wait till I tell everybody that their sinister sinuses aren't really cleared. It's all in our heads.
