My Korean wife said the exact same thing. No individualism and everyone tends to follow trends to the teeth. It's a culture of followers and they consider celebrities almost to gods and divine status.

S. Korea is a beautiful country (good for visiting/travelling but not for living permanently) but their society are not that pretty. They are too obsessed with brand and plastic surgery.

Cuz the whole k-culture is a massive obsession/addiction. You never know when you start losing your individuality and start following their trends.
I'm saying this as someone who was OBSESSED before. I've been so happy and satisfied with my life ever since I took a little step back and started deciding for myself rather than letting their trends guide me

I like k drama and some of k pops because the story is good and song is good to listen. Nothing more.... Never dream to live there

She spoke the truth. I broke up a lot of friendships and a relationship because of this. Although I'm not Korean, nor do I live in South Korea. I ghosted my ex-boyfriend because of his obsession with kpop and that all he ever made his entire personality about and all he ever only listens to. I used to like it because of him, but now I hate it because of how much it ruined me. Kdrama, I'm neutral towards it, I know everything is fiction there. Nowadays, I prefer Western music way more because it what I grew up with and the language I understand. The only non-english music I do listen to is Spanish music.

good thing they have a strong social standards, bad side the judgement will be quite heavy on those who arent follow their standards. I think japanese also quite the same, tge different is korean people intend to be more deep on look while japanese in attitude. just for a little comparation.

I stood out like a sore thumb whenever I visited Korea bc I love to wear bright, colorful clothing. Everyone else is wearing solid black, white or beige. Even pink (like what this girl is wearing) is rare. She's absolutely right about everyone in Korea looking like NPCs.
