Theres a HUGE difference between a great TECH, and a GREAT INSTRUCTOR. You posess the rare quality of being great at BOTH. Fantastic job of explaining this in easy to digest terms.. and ILLUSTRATING IT. Wheel and tire shops everywhere must hate you! great job.

Just used this technique. I am happy to say I didn't find a bent rim, but the process took me up close to my tires to where I could see a deformity in the sidewall. Glad I found that. At least I will go to the tire shop informed.

I like your videos very much. I just wanted to add.. This is a scientific method of checking bent wheels. You are making a crude "feeler gauge" to check for bends. Crude doesn't mean unscientific. :-)

excellent info and thanks for saying it is not scientific. Your intelligence separates you from the rest of the other people on youtube. You earned yourself a thumbs up my friend!

very true not to put bent wheel in the front. I switched my back wheels to front and suddenly car started tramlining badly on uneven road. When stopping car almost steered to opposite lane by itself. Very dangerous. It turned out my right rear wheel was bent and I didn't even notice that for a few years until switching to right front.

Just found out my wheel was bent today, had no clue what they were talking about. Saw this video and checked, sure enough, the inside of one of my rims was bent pretty badly. At least now I'm at the end of my journey trying to find out what is causing my vibrations and get it replaced. The old tires were losing air on it.

Not gonna lie this is pretty smart lol. I've had my car aligned and balanced several times and I also changed the discs, brake pads and even all 4 tires and I still have the vibration. Im gonna try this tomorrow thanks for the informative video man 👍 (f10 5 series)

Thanks for this. Pretty sure I will be discovering I have a bent wheel later today.

Might need to check for cracks if a dent is detected on an alloy rim, alloy rims tend to sometimes crack with impacts, especially custom rims. Just spray dish soap with water to see if any air leaks out of the dent and if it leaks through a crack. If the soap is applied with the car jacked up and there is no leak on a steel or alloy rim, you still might need to check for leaks with the wheel touching the ground because the weight of the car sometimes makes the tire leak through the dent depending where the dent is positioned. Great method to detect dents.

In my case I had my stock rims and they drove very very smooth no vibrations I bought used rims for cheap and I knew there was a chance they could be bent. And after mounting the rim now I feel the vibration which is why I’m almost certain a rim is bent

Great video! Thank you :) I never thought of these ways and the best thing is that it's cheap and seems very accurate too. Thanks again :).

Thanks friend. I got rim rash from hitting a curb at 10 mph. Made a sound like I hit a metal rod because they are steel rims. Impact made the car jolt back and forth. Drives fine.. no veering or noise. I should be fine to go then right?

This stress is annoying, I wish I never hit that curb lol
