An Ariane 5 launch vehicle (Ariane Flight VA256) launched the James Webb Space Telescope from Ariane Launch Complex No. 3 (ELA 3) at Guiana Space Centre in Kourou, French Guiana, on 25 December 2021, at 12:20 UTC (09:20 local time, 07:20 EST, 13:20 CET). The James Webb Space Telescope (sometimes called JWST or Webb) is a large infrared telescope with a 6.5-meter primary mirror. Intended as the successor to the Hubble Space Telescope, JWST was funded by three space agencies: NASA, ESA, CSA. The telescope will be 100 times more powerful, and will incorporate improved and different technologies to capture 70% more light.

"From a tropical rainforest to the edge of time itself, James Webb begins a voyage back to the birth of the Universe."

the launch of the James Webb telescope by the French team in French Guiana was so precise that Naza communicated that the telescope would have years of life more than what had been planned ... indeed the propellant on board in the telescope which was intended to periodically readjust the position of the telescope in space, was saved, because it was not used to correct the trajectory! a huge success for Ariane and this French team. ESA is happy, Nasa is happy ... i'm so happy !!

It doesn't matter if your christian, muslim, Buddhist (idk any others :/) or atheist. We should all be proud of what the scientists of NASA, the CSA and the ESA have accomplished here. This people is how we make history. Merry Christmas and happy new year

This is just the first step of a complex process, I’m excited for all the engineering and scientific work that is making this possible and I hope everything else goes smoothly.

Beautiful launch. Rockets are always a bit of a wild card, no matter how reliable they seem. Extremely happy there were no issues during the ascent though.

I was very nervous about this launch. I think this telescope will show us so many new things! Can't wait. Congratulations for all the smart people that worked on it, for the mankind!

I bet everyone involved was sweating bullets if something will go wrong because a lot was on the line. Glad the launch and telescope calibration went well and months later, now, we got some of the amazing first images from it. Kudos

00:30 "Lift off from a tropical rain forest to the edge of time itself."
I had tears in my eyes at this point. My other favorite was when JWST released from the vehicle and the announcer explained how that particular moment was the last time humanity laid eyes on JWST. Unfortunately that isn't a part of this video.
