To anyone that this doesn't work for - CALL ADOBE helpdesk. That's how I found this fix in the first place.

As a newbie in video editing, I was freaking out when my audio went away. I had already edited one thing, and then my audio disappeared. This worked. Thank you so much for saving my project!

Wow! This saved me a TON of frustration as I just installed Adobe CC on my new computer. Got home from work thinking I could jump right into my Premiere project and lo and behold, NONE of the audio was working...Creative Cloud wasn't even able to "locate" my files, even though they were all in the cloud! Once I applied this quick little fix, BOOM, everything was there! Thanks for this!

I actually had a somewhat different problem, where without updating the program, it just unlinked my clips for no reason. Didn't move them, didn't delete them, didn't make any changes to the program. It just unlinked everything and wouldn't let me fix it. This I didn't think would work sense my issue wasn't the same, but everything is back now! Losing hours of work is always infuriating, so thanks for being the one helpful person online with this issue! I'm subscribing!

You are a stud. I have been using premiere for more than 10 years and with CC2017 I suddenly hit a brick wall importing my MTS files. THANK

Hi there I hope you still answer questions about this :( I had the problem a week ago, but it was fixed thanks to your awesome video! But it happen again, when I repeat the steps, now I have two folders ( common, and commonold ), sounds like a dumb question, but do I rename the common to commonold and delete one ? Or something in that sort ? Please help

If you have a MAC instead of a PC, the solution is similar: Shut down everything Adobe> Finder> Search> type "common" in the box and hit enter> look for the folder that says "common" and if you have multiples, look for the one that has Adobe as a parent folder> click and rename "commonold".

Thank you so much! I've been having this issue for a couple of months. Basically every time I did an update, premiere could no longer read the audio in the mp4's that I created before. Ridiculous really.

Thanks so much for this!! I've spent the last 30-40 minutes looking at YouTube videos trying to find a fix for this ... none of the other 'solutions' worked for me!!! Your solution has worked!! Great stuff!!!! :)

Thanks for sharing!! I was on the phone with an Adobe rep for 1 hour and he did exactly what you mention, but he also cleaned the cache in Premiere before closing the app. It fixed the problem until I closed the project and re-opened it. Upon re-opening, all the .mp4 and .mts files were "offline" and when re-linking/re-importing, the audio of every file was missing (the .mov files were not affected, as they retained the audio tracks). Did you experience this or did the 1 time fix solve all your issues permanently? This issue seems pretty major to me. If it's an oversight by Adobe then they should iron this out quickly. Unhappy customers losing time, missing deadlines and potentially losing clients over a faulty product is not good business or care.
