How to easily Fix Adobe Premiere sound dropping out in rendered footage or videos. Sound muted after rendering and other types of audio drop out.

Also take a look at this new video

If you don't want to watch the whole three and a half minutes, basically change the bitrate in the export from VBR to CBR, this seems to fix the problem straight away and has worked for me for all my more recent content.

I speculate in the video why it happens and for me it always would happen between clips, so my thoughts are the VBR handles the cuts badly and then waits for the the next cut on the timeline. No idea really just an idea i had that makes sense to me.

I’m a very experienced editor but i’ve never bothered to learn bitrates, Codec, Color spaces (like Rec 709 etc) but lately i’ve been realizing it’s important, to learn so one could fix these issues fast and on the spot.

Gonna try this and the CBR and hopefully it works! Appreciate this tutorial!

you're explaining export settings. Mine is dropouts in both Source and Timeline. I have waveform but no audio. So frustrating. DaVinci is looking better and better.

I found a fix for my audio dropping out. I have around 30 minutes long videos, and sometimes it drops out for a couple of seconds after 20 mins. It's in full hd basicly. I tried your solution, didn't help, and only other video about it offered to use handbrake app to each video before, to convert videos to cbr. It just wont work for me. So i switched to cbr 2pass, it took a lot more time, but it analyzes your file in 1st pass, and does it in 2nd. now my problem's gone. Audio is fixed. I'm just writing this, if someone needs solution, this might be it. Cheers.

Great video thanks Mike. I would like to have a look at Adobe Premiere but as the running costs are eye watering, I'll stick with the freebies!

Do these settings help in the same way if you use fab filters on the footage?

Didn't work for me. What did work was setting the audio sample rate from 48 kHz to 44.1 kHz. Works for youtube but not for all projects.

Didn't work for me. I had a limiter on the audio to keep the audio from hitting over -2.95db and when I removed that, the audio came out fine. What doesn't make any sense is that the audio could cut out randomly for different exports of the same exact video with the same settings. Sometimes for a few seconds, sometimes for a few minutes. I'm thinking about switching to Resolve, due to this headache piece of software from Adobe.

I've been tinkering with the anaglyph plugin which is interesting but it's quite taxing to use. So I threw it on an entire timeline of stuff and man has it pushed premiere to it's limits. 8k gpu covered effects? No sweat. Not sure what makes an audio plugin bring my beefy workstation to its knees. Strange thing is that after it does it's stupidly long pre-calculations before rendering, it still seems to just drop the effect and it almost seems to flicker on and off. Especially when I animate the sound sources position moving around. Not sure what's been causing it.

It doesn't work for me 😥 I work on a 1080-60 secuence with clips in both h.264 (my gopro hero 10, mavic air2) and h.265 (insta360 OneX2, gopro Hero 9).
I render the secuence to 4k-60 VBR-1 to 100mbps (becaouse of YouTube processes the 1080 version better than not if I upload it directly in 1080-60) and some h.265 clips (or only a fragment of those) are muted. Only happens in H.265 gopro Hero 10 clips (because of this, I set my Hero10 to h.264 again).

The only that works for me is delete the peak files and let Premiere regenerate them. But I run the risk that the muted-clip issue will happen to me in any other clip.

But this issue only happens to me when I export with premiere, if I do it with media encoder it doesn't happen 🙄

I cannot fix this issue with adobe. I tried DaVinci but I always ran into problems with it. Idk why adobe can't fix this. There's no reason anyone should have to deal with this. You pay for the software it should work.
