Today, we’re going to talk about the #1 thing that improves your health. It has to do with increasing the diversity of microbes in your gut.

Ideally, you want a rich microbiome with a lot of different species. Without this diversity, you’ll provide the perfect space for harmful bacteria to thrive.

A lack of diverse microbes can lead to symptoms, including:
• Diarrhea
• Gut inflammation
• Toxins
• Obesity
• Slow metabolism
• Mood changes

This lack of diversity is called dysbiosis, and it’s associated with many different serious health conditions.

Potential benefits of diverse microbes:
• They help you make vitamins
• They provide immune protection
• They help keep inflammation low
• They feed colon cells
• They help produce amino acids, neurotransmitters, and other proteins
• They help keep your energy high

How to increase the diversity of microbes in your gut and boost your health:
1. Consume food that has been grown on soil that has a diverse microbiome
2. Increase the diversity of plant foods in your diet
3. Exercise
4. Get plenty of quality sleep
5. Do intermittent fasting
6. Consume phenols
7. Consume sprouts or microgreens grown on soil
8. Consume probiotic foods
9. Consume raw foods

Top things that lower microbiome diversity:
1. Broad-spectrum antibiotics
2. Glyphosate
3. Animals fed on a monoculture
4. Stress
5. Artificial sweeteners
6. Inflammation
7. Liver issues
8. Sterilized foods
9. Radiated foods
10. Overly processed foods
11. A lack of variety of foods in the diet

If you’re expecting a baby, keep in mind that having a natural birth and breastfeeding can both enhance the diversity of microbes in an infant.

I am almost in disbelief of what a difference Kefir has made in my life. I started drinking it about 4 months ago because of what Dr. Berg had been saying about it. The digestive problems that I have been dealing with for the last 5 years are now gone. I also had cut out the sugary foods, bread products and I am eating cruciferous vegetables. However, when I started drinking Kefir it was, literally, an overnight change in my bowel problems. It’s incredible. Thanks, once again, for helping me through and rectifying another health problem. I highly recommend trying Kefir. Thanks, again, Dr. Berg!

I have to tell you a story. It's a story about enlightenment. Not in the ethereal sense (although I think it bares some relevance) Long story short; I was raised on a farm, we grew and ate our own food (free of poisons) Left home, moved to the city, went to school, changed my way of life completely. Fell into the trap of the commercial "food" industry. Sick a LOT. Met my guy who was practicing holistic health to manage an autoimmune disease. He educated me on FOOD and HEALTH. We practiced together. We healed each other.
We hadn't been to a regular grocery store to buy our FOOD in a long time. One day we had to go out of town. We needed something so stopped at a mainstream grocery. I had what I would describe as an out of body experience. It was something that I was completely thrown off by. In the middle of that store the realization hit me that there was NO REAL FOOD in that whole place. They didn't even have anything organic. I looked around as if in a foreign land and things may as well have been in slow motion as I watched people shuffling by with their carts stuffed with all of this Non-food garbage. I wondered to myself; do any of them know what they are consuming? Do they? The vast majority did not look healthy. Mainly they looked tired and over-weight. That was a true awakening to me. I pray that people will awaken to the evil that has captured our lives. FOOD should heal not kill.
Cheers to you Dr. Eric Berg. Keep fighting the good fight.

Doc, I can say first hand that the incredible health improvements that I have experienced by going KETO with intermittent fasting have been absolutely life changing! I have a complicated loss-of-domain hernia that requires me to have a abdominal wall reconstructive surgery to fix. In order to do that, I have to drop from a weight of 450lbs to under 300lbs. By getting onto a KETO diet with 18hrs of daily fasting, I have lost 110lbs thus far and I have only been on the diet for 7 months. I feel better than ever. Issues that I have dealt with for decades are fading quickly and I feel a vitality being restored that I thought was merely middle age...it isn't. Its the addiction that we have with certain accepted poisons, and I am so happy to be free of them. Its not a diet...its a way of life.

I needed this. After 8 months of anti-biotics for various viruses/infections. It’s done a number on my gut. I have been taking digestive enzymes for a week, various potassium rich foods, variety… it’s really helped. I have my energy back. My joint’s no longer ache. 🙏🏽

I noticed when you were talking about sauerkraut you didn’t mention the importance of buying sauerkraut from the fridge section of the supermarket. Most sauerkraut that you find on the shelf loses most of it healthy microbes during the jarring process. You want to find the stuff that is unpasteurized. 😊

I’ve been looking at increasing plants in my diet for sometime. I’d recommend growing some of your own. You can grow them quite easily in tubs and pots if you have a small garden and you know they’ll be organic and fresh.

If you want to see a huge diversity of fermented food, study Korean cuisines. Staple foods are gochujang, soybean paste, kimchi (which means ANY veggie that's fermented in a certain way), pickled veggies (fermented), salted fermented fish (added to season dishes before or after cooking) and that's just a list off the top of my head. Japanese umeboshi is a powerful fermented food for gut health. The intense sourness helps with digestion. All cultures have traditions in fermenting food. You just have to look at cultures who still have knowledge of these traditions
