Teeth Sensitivity After A Cavity Filling | What To Do

preview_player
Показать описание
This video talks about how to relieve and prevent tooth sensitivity after a filling. It’s not abnormal to experience sensitive teeth after fillings are placed. Normally it will wear off within a few days to a month. But if the pain is moderate to severe or lasts longer than a few weeks, go back to your dentist’s office to have it checked out. More than likely they’ll just need to adjust your filling, but in a worst-case scenario, they may need to perform a root canal.

2 months and my teeth hurt . Before the fillings I had zero pain and no problem eating. I hate that I got it done

Pretty sure some people experience sensitivity after a filling because some dentist are just bad their jobs. That's been my experience with it.

Had a filling done Dec 5, 2023. It’s now Dec 23 & I still have sensitivity to cold liquids. The pain fluctuates throughout the day, I’ve been taking 600 mg of ibuprofen for this whole time to help alleviate the pain. I did go back to extract another molar & told the dentist about the pain & he just checked my bite. Said to give it a few more weeks. The thing is though, that I had a silver filling on both top & bottom & he didn’t advise me about removing them & placing the composite filling. These teeth never gave me any issues before hand either until now after the filling. Pain gets bad where it wakes me up at night. I feel now that I made a mistake going to the dentist. Hadn’t been to one since 2017 & didn’t have issues. I’m going to need to find another dentist & see what can be done.

**UPDATE: 3/17/24
Pain has subsided since I first received the filling. About 45 days after is when I noticed pain to go down, I still have light sensitivity to cold drinks but the overall pain that I previously had is about gone. From a scale of 1-10, I’d say I’m currently at a 2, I could feel something there, light sensitivity & minor pain but nothing compared to the beginning.

I had a filling 2 days ago on both the left and right side, the left is fine but the right is quite sensitive with cold drinks now so I come across your video and this has give me reassurance :) thanks Whitney!

Thank you for this, my molars had deep fillings and I was afraid when my dentist said it could be weeks before they stop hurting. Always nice to hear a second person give the same info. Hopefully it will get better soon, the pain itself I don't think is too bad it's just very distracting.

This video helped so much. I got fillings done last week on two top right teeth and have been in serious pain since then. I had to go back today and have them smooth it out more because my bite was off.

Only 1 thing I regret in my 26 yrs of living is not looking after my teeth properly

Thank you for this video…it’s comforting.
I received a 3-surface filling four weeks ago and now I have sensitivity to hot and cold temperatures as well as pain and bleeding when I floss interproximally on both sides of the tooth. I’ve been swishing with warm salt water and avoid that side altogether to no avail.

I guess it’s time to call my dentist. I hope they won’t think I’m implying that they did “bad work” on my tooth. I never know how to approach these sensitive topics with healthcare professionals.

Some dentists are great and others are horrible. The first time I had fillings was 2011, and he was terrible though I didn’t know it at the time. Every tooth he filled hurt for two to three weeks severely sensitive to cold. They were all rough and jagged, high, many of them failed within a couple years. One tooth gave me electrical shocks when the local wore off, felt like it had a popcorn kernels stuck inside the tooth, and was severely sensitive for six weeks. It took three years to completely feel normal again… then it felt perfect for 7 years. Recently it felt slightly sensitive and a new dentist said the filling is leaking. I was terrified to let any dentist touch it, but I faced my fears. Night and day difference. This dentist was slow and careful, took extra care to keep it cool while drilling, total etched the enamel for better bonding, lightly etched the Denton, applied a dentin sealer with flouride “vitrebond” and very carefully filled and adjusted it. Sensitive has been only 1 out of 10 yesterday. Today it feels completely normal and no longer hurts when eating sweat things.

I have a dental abcess after a deep filling. And I read 2 other people got the same thing. I would suggest never get a deep filling get a root canal, extraction, or a crown maybe stay away from deep fillings!

So helpful! I had no idea that's it's normal for the nerve to be sensitive for so long. That's a very good thing to know. Thank you!

It's been a year since I've had a filling and damn the sensitive pain doesn't go away. It isn't too painful but the pain is there.

This video was helpful. I had a filling yesterday and notice that my bite is off and more pressure being applied on the 2 teeth that had fillings. Safe to say. Just called my dentist and going in next week to get it shaped :). Thank you for the video.

Been 4 weeks now and the tooth is still extremely cold sensitive (heat and pressure doesn’t really bother it) my dentist told me it might require a root canal when he filled it. Said he didn’t draw blood, but got very close to the pulp. Didn’t hurt at all for the first few days, then the pain started. Hasn’t really gotten worse since, but definitely hasn’t gotten any better yet. Oddly I noticed it doesn’t hurt at all when I wake up in the morning until I drink or eat. Gonna hold out a bit longer and pray that I don’t need to get a root canal

What could be done if it’s months after a filling and there is still some sensitivity?
Do They check X-ray, and go back into tooth to redo filling?
