Hello, what do you think about doing weightlifting more times per week than crossfit classes if my goal is to increase strength in general but also cardio? For example 4 weightlifting and 3 crossfit. I ask because it is always said that it is more difficult to get strong than resistant, that's why weightlifters go to crossfit easier.

Hey coach, I just did a year of starting strength. Is your hybrid program ok to do after that, or should I start with something less?

I was a CrossFit hater for a long time. At first bc I felt a brand-name hijacked my training method. Then later because it seemed to have almost zero sport specific carryover and form breakdowns encouraged.
Here we are like 12 years later and I believe these are truly the fittest athletes alive. And though it can be dangerous the sport is turning out more well rounded endurance and superior strength athletes than history has recorded this far.

Been waiting for this one.

Also been following your content for awhile now. Would you ever consider a consultation and possible coaching of a master’s age CrossFit athlete ? (Obviously compensated fairly for time)

It’s the very definition of a sport. By the hater logic, no sport is a sport because too many movements are random.

The hate comes from people not being as athletic as they thought they were. Now they want to diminish an amazing way to build your body and also compete. Further, CrossFitters do lift, a lot. Not just the crazy wods one might see. Technique is driven from the basics to the CrossFit specific meaning, along with the butterfly pull up, CrossFit does tons if strict pull ups just as an example.

CrossFit is very much a sport of exercise, though it has an appeal because CrossFit HQ presents the competitions well that the chaos makes for some good TV/YouTube content.

That said, amid the chaos even in the gym it is common to see CrossFitters do extra work besides the WODs on the board or have their own program to develop their weaknesses. Examples would be some would do an actual Powerlifting program to build strength or a Weightlifting program to work on their cleans and snatches.

Those who really want to improve will eventually break away from just showing up to all the classes and do individualized work, even have custom written programs from their coach which Brent can discuss. Then it becomes legit training versus exercise.

The first time I ever saw someone "eat a treadmill" was in a CrossFit class; a redhead went face first into the tread.

It was, at that point, I understood why we really signed that waiver.😬

Edit-

Those damn kipping pullups 😂...the memories...ah the memories.

Not training to be the best in 1 thing but to be good at everything..sounds simple..but no..esp if ur competing

To address your comment in the first minute - i think most people are critical of Crossfit because we have eyes to see most of the WODs they put out.
They publish daily workouts (which makes up the bulk of public perception of Crossfit weight training) intended for the general public to perform.
When you produce non-specialized workouts for the consumption of potentially millions of people, "there's no progression, no periodization" is a very real criticism.

Yes its an entertaining spectacle but I'm still not gonna agree the swinging monkey pullups and speed over bad form is a thing to encourage
