The photos from the charcoal factory are amazing. Thanks for the review, Bobby!

I've become a Tamron believer. I use Tamron for video in Sony. I would love to do the same with Nikon. Love all the Tamron because I like the 67mm filter size. Great for video guys. I also like shooting handheld weddings on a fx3 and it pairs well.

This is such a great lens and I watched your videos among others when considering it. Specifically using it on a Zf like you did here. I have the Z series primes but I was tired of carrying 3 lenses on trips and also switching them. While surely the IQ of the S primes is superior but the Tamron is so good, it's actually way quieter than the S lenses and for some reason it performs better than them in video. I can't believe the weight is 500gms almost equal to my 50mm 1.8S.

Thanks Bobby - nice summary of the two. I've been wondering as I bought the Nikkor 17-28 2.8 (likely the G1 Tamron) - not sure if Tamron is making a G2 yet, but it occurred to me that when they did, it would now be available for Nikon. Truthfully, for the limited use case that I have with this lens, I doubt I would get the new one - especially for a 5-7% improvement as the one I have is pretty good as it stands.

Still, I am a huge Tamron proponent - had many of their lenses in the DSLR days with my D750 and I think they make great products - whether OEM or rebadged as NIkon - although I suspect now that Nikon is allowing them to make lenses for the Z mount that we will not see future rebadges of their lenses from Nikon - who knows?

I am looking at getting either the Tamron G2 or the Nikkor 28-75. Currently the Nikkor is on sale for less than the Tamron - would it be better to go with the Nikkor or stick to the updated Tamron G2?

I agree about rendering. I have S lenses and have Tamron 28-75mm and rebranded Tamron (17-28mm) and personally, while S lenses are super sharp, there's something about those Tamron files that makes them pleasing to the eye.

Just brought a ZF. I know which primes I want, Problem is now how to fill out my zooms. I had Tamron with my D600 great for the price mostly camera lens communication issues rarely . Tried the Nikon Z 28-400 in store, 24-120 earlier & 70-180 too, not the 28-75 yet of either. So much choice & probably before I buy a 70-180 G2 as well

When you said “reds pop a little bit more, ” is that vs the Tamron G1 or the Nikon badged 28-75? My experience (dating back to film) is that Nikon lenses transmit red better than similar third party glass (albeit the Nikon 28-75 is a Tamron).

I've always been a fan of Tamron glass. LOVE my 35mm 1.8. And I still think the 70-200 G1 was one of the sharpest zooms ever made.
As much as I'll miss 24mm on the wide end, I think this lens will soon join my stable. And will add some super close focus ability 👍👍

It’s actually been almost 2 years since the Tamikon 28-75 came out on Z, and the Tamron G2 came out on Sony about the same time. I almost wonder if Tamron agreed to wait to release the G2 version on Z mount as part of the arrangement with Nikon’s 28-75.

i think the z8 in general is a little too sharp, almost 3D but in an unpleasant way. this lens is insane, though. more than enough to cover nearly all bases unless you need extreme telephoto like wildlife or sports.

Kind of a newbie here. I have nerve damage in my support hand. Will the Nikon 5-axis VR work with this Tamron lens? Thanks

Maybe is Tamron limited to 10 fps in continuous shooting mode?

A 30-80mm F2 or 40-90mm F2 would be awesome though 😅

Wondering how it stacks up against the 24-70 2.8 S. It costs 2x as much. But it has great sharpness and a very pleasant bokeh.

I recently got the sony version ( long story ), but I've the megadap etz21 adapter and it works great on my Nikon Z8 as well as an older sony A7rii henc the adapter. But Tamron's tolerances are so crazy it is a pain at times talking if of to swap out cameras, not that happens very much, but it only happens with this lens not with other Tamron models that I checked out in my local camera store. But great its a great little lens.

Would you recommend the z8 with this g2 tamron or

The z6iii with the 24/70 f/2.8 S?

I love my Nikon 28-75 but I don't think it is worth upgrading for. I wouldn't mind a fast wide prime though.
