This was the absolute best lens breakdown and recommendation video I've ever seen. Masterpiece!

Great and useful breakdown of value alternatives - thanks! That’s why I love Sony… is the value lenses. My choices slightly different… Samyang 24mm 1.8, Samyang 45mm 1.8 and Tamron 35-150 (although not cheap - if you replace 24 to 70 and 70 to 200, it’s great value - and has all the features you mention at the end)

Always appreciate your advice. The Sigma 16-28mm f-2.8 DG DN Contemporary Lens you recommended in an older video is also a great choice.

Thanks a lot for this video.
I just started out in shooting sport videos professionally in Nigeria, and getting quality lens that can do the job has been a serious issue.
Watching this video just narrowed down what I need and at the same time save me a lot of money.
Thanks Chris

Tamron 70-180 f2.8 is a must have for wedding videos.

First of all my congratulation on you 400th YouTube video! My ultimate best lens set will be: Sony 14mm F1.8 GM (or as an option Sony 12-24 2.8 GM, only if you have a boy to carry your lens lol) + Sony 35mm F1.8 + Tamron 35-150 F2-2.8 + Tamron 150-500 F5-6.7. If we go for "budget" then: Tamron 17-28 2.8 + still Sony 35mm F1.8 + Tamron 28-75mm 2.8 G2 + Tamron 70-300 F4.5-6.3 or maybe even coming new Tamron 50-400mm F/4.5-6.3 (instead of both 28-75 and 70-300). If we go for budget then just Tamron 28-200 F2.8-5.6 + Helios 44-2 58mm F2.

I bought the 55mm Zeiss a few months ago. Got it for round about 550€ and it is AMAZING. I don‘t understand what it does, but there is something special going on with it

What I recommend on a budget (all of these lenses can be found for under $200, sony e mount): TTArtisan 27mm F2.8 AF lens ($149 new), Sony 55-210mm F4.5-5.6 (used market), Sony 24-70 FE (kit lens for A7 series cameras, can also be used of APSC (also found for around $200 used) :)

Thank for the video 💪 It could be really useful for people building their system. It is easy to spend money for the G Masters and do NOT have expected results. Quite often it is much better to spend the reasonable amount of money and just use the gear - after some time, if you really now what you need/like you can invest into G Master for the one specific use case you are 110% sure about.

You have mentioned 24mm GM and 50 GM which sounds like a good options for videography and vlogs. If you are focusing more on photography and looking for the best bang for your bucks I would highly recommend the two lenses from Sony: 35mm 1.8 and 85mm 1.8 💣 Somehow these lenses are not G graded, but they offer weather sealing, focus hold button (I do not like that name) and AF/MF switch. The AF is fast and precise. Some of the cons compared to GM lenses are: only 1.8 vs 1.4 in GM, lack of aperture ring, more CA. Still amazing value ...

The budget zoom lens I have found that is widely usable is the Sigma Zoom-K III 75 - 210 mm. It is very economical in price and can be used for a wide variety of applications. it is almost a universal lens with no need to change for different applications. It will do regular photography, Telephoto shots as well as Macro.

Hi Chris, I would love to see an update after 2 years...maybe before Black Friday? 😊

My biggest thing with prime lenses is just going for the F1.8 primes instead of the F1.4s and generally going used. 35mm F1.8 is an amazing option as is the 50mm F1.8. I did do the 55mm F1.8, but that was bought during the early days where the standard 50mm F1.8s autofocus was rubbish on the older bodies. The Sigma 24-70 F2.8 is a good lens - but it does zoom the wrong way which is very annoying.... I might have gone with the Tamron if I had known. I do like the sound of the Tamron 28-200.... if my Sony 24-240 ever dies (and it's been through a lot)... I think I will get that.

Really good video! Probably one of the most informative video about lenses. You covered when/why/how, especially the practical how part, which is straight to the point and not like many other channels. One thing to mention is that you can do great work with almost any lens. I just watched a full video about massive ski jumps where the whole video is of very poor quality image wise, the snow is blown out and the sky is over saturated, you can't actually see the detail of what you want to see, but hey, they are in a Red Bull event doing massive stuff. The whole video is probably made from a GoPro so what does that matter??? It's always the content and the story that makes a great video. Just like if you produced this video in poor image quality, like in a quick podcast style phone video, I'd still say the same praise, because your information is great. So just go for that one which you can comfortably afford. That's my reaction of the last parts.

Sigma 16-28 2.8 is the best value for wide angle zoom low light in my opinion.
