Ah yes, I definitely should be thinking about product photography as a filmmaker

For aps-c that would roughly translate to 10-15mm for the wide, 20-30mm for medium and 50-60mm for an equivalent tele lens

I have videos like this. They make it sound like you’re doing it wrong if you do anything but what is said in the video. If you’re beginning in photograph your videography you will have learned the famous quote “The best camera is the one you have with you.” There is zero reason to make someone believe that their kit is worse or better because they don’t use these lenses. In fact, if I remember correctly, the entire broadcast for the iPhone 15 launch was shot solely on the iPhone and nothing else: plastic lenses inside of a cell phone look great when they’re being manned by someone who knows how to use the tool. You can make award winning content with a kit lens. That’s that.

35mm f1.4 and 50mm f1.4 is totally enough for basically everything.

This is why we love the RF24-105 f4
The only downside is the F4 but the range is just 👌🏻

buy a lens around 18-50 range for aps c, and around 24-70 range for full frame. it'll cover 80% of your needs

I have a 600mm, it’s to much almost all of the time. But my 18-35, 50, 16, and 70-200 I use constantly.

I would say skip 3 zooms and go for 6primes, 16mm, 24mm, 35mm, 50mm, 85mm and a 135mm for every shoot the best image quality👌🏽

Don't get more than 100/200mm. Else if you get one you might think 'hmm let me try wildlife ' then you go see some youtube videos then decide to go for it. Then realise the photos you see others take are on fear worth 20k. Then get depressed thinking you will never be able to get those shots.

I have a Tamron 17-28mm f/2.8 - and the Sigma 28-105mm f/2.8 - so just with those 2 lenses I'm able to cover 17mm to 105mm all in f/2.8 🔥 So literally covering that entire focal range you're talking about. Plus, I have the Tamron 70-180mm f/2.8 G2' for those longer/tighter shots! And a Sony 85mm f/1.4 G Master, plus a Sony 35mm f/1.8! Id say im pretty much covered in all areas. And like i said, the first 2 lenses alone carry 17mm to 105mm at f/2.8
The Sigma 28-105mm 2.8 is a beast! I love it ❤️

These Youtubers smh..no you don’t need a 16-35 unless you’re shooting real estate or architecture. Save your money, A 24-70 f2.8 or 24-105 f4 is all you need. 24mm on a full frame is wide enough for any establishing shots.

My 35-150 T2 -2.8 is used 90% of the time

I only need a wideangle zoom, 35, 85, telezoom. Maybe someday swap the primes for one 50mm.

I'm using 28-80mm for all around shots.

instead of 85-100mm i highly recommend 85-135 range i have a 70-200 and have been using it at 135 a lot lately and other then portraits its also amazing for street photography cars ect, a must to keep in mind and try!

A filmmaker should be typically be using the 70—200mm as a go-to. Wide lenses are a common mistake for amateur filmmakers. Watch some proper films and see how much longer the lenses used are than you would expect.
