You explained the myths very well! My Akita lived for 11 years. He passed away 15 years ago. He called me before he died by howling until the vet telephoned me. He waited for me to arrive to pass away. They're that loyal!

My dad bought two Akitas from Japan and first time I saw a dog that came with a passport. Very beautiful, smart, loyal dogs.

I had an Akita for almost15 years. We rescued him from an animal shelter. He was about 9 months old and was one of the most loving dogs I've ever had. He was very protective and gentle with my 6-month-old granddaughter when she visited. He passed away last year and I still miss him.

My dad had an akita when I was younger. He was the best dog you could ever ask for. So friendly so protective and so loyal. He wouldn't hurt a fly unless he had to. I still miss my hanz to this day. Unfortunately he got a health problem that apparently only comes from the Japanese akitas. Rip hanz I love ya boy

My 52 kg American Akita is never aggressive to any small animal, or any child or adult. However, if he thinks someone is threatening me, he will flip his switch and OMG he can get ferocious.

Great video! I was the proud owner of an Akita girl for 10 years.
I never let her be unleashed with other dogs after she turned into adulthood, but she tolerated the ones who tried to get her attention in one way or another. She just totally ignored them until they gave up. She was crazy about all the people she knew from she was a puppy. Everyone else she ignored. Well - except for ONE time when she was about 4 years old.Two drunk guys tried to aproach me on the street. From their comments - probably not with the best intenions, so I got scared. She noticed it instantly, and went into full protection mode. She never pulled the leash, so I didn't experience her insane power and ability to attack until then. Good for them that I managed to hold her back.
Her best friend was my horse. They spent a long time every day grooming each other, play and just hang out on the horse field. A very special, rare and beautiful relationship.100% trust and respect for each other.
I always had dogs during my 50 years on this planet.I loved them all dearly, but she was my heart.
The biggest issue I actually had with her was other people. Telling them that she prefered to be left alone by someone she didn't know well, or play with their dogs. I know that most people don't have any experience with the breed, but you just get tired of explaining the same thing over and over.

Great video, very informative and dispels a lot of myths. My American Akita is a 3 yr old male (120lbs) that we’ve had from an 8 week old puppy. We’ve given him the love that every dog deserves and it has paid off so far. He has a fantastic temperament towards people and always seems to know how gentle to be when meeting elders or infants, he is also great with our grandchildren. His instinctual nature to protect is evident as he guards our property with absolute resolute. When meeting other dogs, it can be bit of hit and miss, I have to be weary of this and keep him tethered at all times when out in public. His loyalty is second to none and he is also very affectionate for a large breed dog. I’ve had many dogs in the past, but this guy has a special place in my heart. I would recommend this breed to an experienced dog owner.

Many many years of dogs / cats/ massive aquariums, owner, etc. Hound dogs, dachshunds, Jacks, and 15 yrs of Akitas(6 total Akitas)... The Am Akita is my favorite to date... Meanest dog in the house was when I was young and it was my Dad's Dachshund.. LOL This dog killed like 16 cats!! Scary!! Coolest mix was a Malinois mixed Akita!! Was an insane ride!! Loyal smart as hell... 5 different commands in 3 languages... That is nutz!! Now... stop in one language didn't mean stop in English or any other language:) Taught him and our family total random words.. Never had any issues (RIP).. We did have a pile of dead prey game. HEHE. This includes several Coyotes... Our big males(140 lb) would hunt them relentlessly and the female always had their back once engaged... Great team work!! Never even blinked an eye to our cats outside of annoying them.. LOL... 15lb Barn Tabby will put a hurt on most dogs.. LOL

We have our first Akita. I never imagined how much he loves us. He takes his job as protector very seriously. Only major issues are that he displays food aggression and anyone he doesn’t know is not welcome around him or us.

Hello!
I am glad that I came across your channel. About 6 months ago we got our my first Akita. Her name is Chloe and she is 8 months now. I have noticed that she gets very excited meeting new people, but she is very protective and senses when someone that’s bad comes near. She is a very strong and playful girl. Right now she really enjoys playing soccer 😊. We were able to teach her some commands in English and Spanish.

Thank you for your videos. I am excited to see more content and hear other Akita tips.

My first dog was a Kai-Ken, beautiful black on black brindle. Most recent dog was an Akita. Love both breeds, but my favourite is hands down the Akita. Both are extremely intelligent, and both dogs were very loving, and friendly. High prey drive, and protective. I miss both my girls.

Obviously one can only comment on the dogs one has direct experience with. My 140 lbs unaltered male is like yours - loves most people- and when he was younger- he played with other dogs and enjoyed their company. As he matured around 2.5 years however he suddenly became hyper dominant and reactive to aggression from other dogs such that since you never know which dogs will be aggressive, I could no longer let him around other dogs as when he reacted - it was full red zone in 1 to 2 seconds with no growling or warning. He actually seems to enjoy being challenged by other dogs. No amount of socialization or training will overcome such brain chemistry and genetics. He is tolerant of cats he was raised with but will try to kill any new cat and with wildlife he is 100% predatory. Great dog but you cannot let such a dog roam off leash because other dogs will commit suicide by Akita if you do. He does not attack or notice every dog, only those who behave aggressively towards him. Due to his size - most dogs react to him with fear based aggression so there you go. He will not tolerate a challenge or turn the other cheek and after witnessing him in action against my intact male chow chow and run down and shred coyotes-I would never take a chance with him in a dog park. Great dog but he really needs to be protected from himself!

Good honest video.
My current American Long coat Akita is not typical in that he has been very socialized. He’s a big goofball with a heart of gold.
My guard is always up as he is still what he is. I’m always at his side when he meets people, kids, other Dogs etc.
It’s my responsibility to keep him out of a bad situation. Id rather be over cautious than under.
Long story long.
He’s a big friendly boy who at 10 years has met countless people and dogs as I bring him everywhere I can. Akitas in general are a commitment, a very rewarding one.

Awesome video, thank you. My beloved breed — I fell in love with my aunt’s Akita when I was 4 years old and have loved this breed immensely ever since.

I think another common myth is that Akitas are stubborn. I contend they are not, in fact, stubborn at all. They are independent-thinking. If they aren’t obeying you then they simply haven’t been convinced that your idea is better than their idea. Which is why strong leadership, mutual respect, and a loving bond are paramount. You also have to accept the fact that sometimes this dog will do as they please—which is one of their most endearing traits, to me.

I love Akitas, our Sophy is 6 years old and very aggressive to smaller animals. She's very loving, loyal and vocal. They are all so different natured and unlike any dog breed I've ever owned. She's very stubborn it's definitely been a learning curve with her but I wouldn't take a million dollars for her.

Great video, Ive had 4 Akita's in 45 years. My current male is 5. They've all been great pets and protectors but not made for everyone.

I have a 6 mo old American Akita male. Or my son does. However, he was transferred 2.5 hours away from his home. So I moved into his house to take care of his animals and home. My late husband introduced us to the Breed. Loyal, protective, playful, smart, and beautiful breed. I appreciate you showing the amazing breed. As with ANY breed, IT BEGINS WITH OWNER!!!!

Our little girl Chancie is about 4 months. Our first Akita. She’s a love bug but definitely gets a little too rough at times when we play. She’s great with our 7 yr old son & does well with meeting new people. People are not kidding when they say Akita’s are stubborn, if you can’t convince her doing something is a good idea she ain’t doing it 😂
