This is my favorite recipe from my home country of Romania. It's called Sarmale and it's basically cabbage rolls filled with minced meat and rice, slow-cooked in a pot with all sorts of spices and juices. I love it so much.

i think most of continental europe has some variation of "filled and rolled cabbage leaves". it's a really simple, flexible and tasty dish

the company I work with (we work in Oil & Gas) has two whole teams of Romanian professionals, and in the last three or four years I used to be either the only or one of the few Italians deployed with the teams on the construction projects (the company is Italian btw).
Because of that and because our job is pretty demanding, I spent easters, midsummers, and once even New Years, with the guys.
I'll always remember, the last Easter we spent together, we got all together, and the guys prepared Sarmale, Salata Orientala, and grilled some Mititei....and we drank Palinca. A lot of it...
I miss those guys

Sarma and Burek is the most loved and favorite dishes in whole Balcan. Truly Balcan cuisine. In Serbia we say "its so delicious you must to lick your fingers".

As a Romanian. One of my favorite dishes are sarmale. I like it when I see my dad making them.

The sour cream is a MUST. I was worried you don't eat it like this. In Ukraine you always eat the stuffed veggies (cabbage, bell peppers, onions) with sour cream. The harmony it's creating with the tomato sauce is the most delicious thing in the world ))

I'm Hungarian and I LOVE this. We do it a little differently, though. Either way, it's a 10/10.

Hey Kwook, my mom also makes sarmale, but without the tomato mixture that you used, they still come out delicious, and its very nice seeing you do this.
