And the theif on the cross beside him is still dead and buried to this day. Jesus was telling him an important truth still lost on most today, that the dead are not without hope though their bones are currently dried up.

Where does a person go the moment they die ? Into the ground, decaying, becoming "dust again" (Gen 3:19), for they have died, as Ecclesiastes 9:4-6 states: "There is hope for whoever is among the living, because a live dog is better off than a dead lion (that has ceased to exist, just as Adam became a "living soul" ONLY when he started breathing, so that up till that time he was a "dead soul", Gen 2:7, and again became a dead soul upon his death, returning to "the dust", Gen 3:19)."

"For the living know that they will die, but the dead know NOTHING at all, nor do they have any more reward, because all memory of them is forgotten. Also, their love and their hate and their jealousy have already PERISHED, and they no longer have any share in what is done under the sun."

At Psalms 115:17, it says: "The dead do not praise Jah (shortened form of Jehovah, God's name, see Isa 12:2, KJV); Nor do any who go down into the SILENCE of death." As Psalms 31:17 states: "O Jehovah, may I not be put to shame when I call on you. May the wicked be put to shame; May they be silenced in the Grave (or dead, ceasing to exist)."

At Psalms 146:3, 4, it says: "Do not put your trust in princes nor in a son of man, who cannot bring salvation. His spirit (or life force, like electricity for an appliance) goes out, he returns to the ground (decaying, turning to "dust") On that very day his thoughts perish (ceasing to exist)."

At Isaiah 26:19, it shows that those who have died are "powerless in death", but which many will receive a resurrection (Greek anastasis, meaning "to stand up again in life", for there is NO immortal soul that lives on after death, for the soul is us as a person, that breathes, eats, bleeds and be destroyed, see Gen 2:7; Lev 23:30; Deut 12:20; Isa 53:12; Jer 2:34; Acts 3:23; James 5:20) from the dead, saying:

"Your dead will live. My corpses will rise up. Awake and shout joyfully, you residents in the dust ! For your dew is as the dew of the morning, and the earth will let those powerless ("powerless" Hebrew naphal, meaning "to fall, sunken, powerless, ones") in death come to life (in which if a person never died, then how can these ones "come to life", which shows what Christendom teaches, of immortality of the soul, as a falsehood)

So, when a person dies, they cease to exist, and ONLY if Jehovah God remembers them will they receive a resurrection from the dead, as Job requested, saying: "O that in the Grave you would conceal me, that you would hide me until your anger passes by, that you would set a time limit for me and remember me !"

"If a man dies, can he LIVE AGAIN ? I will wait all the days of my compulsory service ("compulsory service" Hebrew tsaba, meaning "to be conscripted, forced to be in the military", so that Job is compelled to remain dead in the grave) until my relief (or resurrection) comes."

"You will call, and I will answer you (living again, being resurrected). You will long for the work of your hands (or long to see loyal ones living again, even after having been dead for thousands of years)."(Job 14:13-15, New World Translation)

For this reason the gospel was preached also to those who are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit." (1 Peter 4:6 NKJV)
"Now this, "He ascended"--what does it mean but that He also first descended into the lower parts of the earth? He who descended is also the One who ascended far above all the heavens, that He might fill all things." (Ephesians 4:9-10 NKJV) "For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.” (Matthew 12:40) And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with me in paradise.(Luke 23:43) --I think Christ went to (Paradise)Abraham's bosom(Luke 16:19-31) with the thief and preached to the old saints and then after three days he took them and ascended to heaven! And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, and came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.(Matthew 27:52-53) KJV “We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.” (2 Corinthians 5:8 KJV)

*"What Really Happens After You Die?"* One hears many different answers to that question. The following is for those few who are interested in knowing what the Bible says.

✴ _18 I said to myself concerning the sons of men, “God has surely tested them in order for them to see that they are but beasts.” 19 For the fate of the sons of men and the fate of beasts is the same. As one dies so dies the other; indeed, they all have the same_ *BREATH* ( "ruach" ) _and there is no advantage for man over beast, for all is vanity. 20 All go to the same place. All came from the dust and all return to the dust. 21 Who knows that the_ *BREATH* ( "ruach" ) _of man ascends upward and the_ *BREATH* ( "ruach" ) _of the beast descends downward to the earth?_ (Ecclesiastes 3: 18-21; NASB)

Doesn't the Bible teach that you're asleep until one resurrection or the other Jesus spoke of death as asleep? He said Lazarus is sleeping you can.

Most of this is very true! But we don’t go to sleep after death. Jesus clearly said that the rich man woke up in torment and Lazarus was comforted in Abraham’s bosom 😇

All Praises to The Most High!

Romans 5:12

12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

Romans 3:23-24

23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:

John 3:16

16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Romans 6:23

23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Revelation 20:12-14

12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.

13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.

14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.

Job 14:1-2

14 Man that is born of a woman is of few days and full of trouble.

2 He cometh forth like a flower, and is cut down: he fleeth also as a shadow, and continueth not.

Job 14:10-14

10 But man dieth, and wasteth away: yea, man giveth up the ghost, and where is he?

11 As the waters fail from the sea, and the flood decayeth and drieth up:

12 So man lieth down, and riseth not: till the heavens be no more, they shall not awake, nor be raised out of their sleep.

13 O that thou wouldest hide me in the grave, that thou wouldest keep me secret, until thy wrath be past, that thou wouldest appoint me a set time, and remember me!

14 If a man die, shall he live again? all the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come.

1 Thessalonians 4:13-17

13 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.

14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.

15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.

16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

John 6:38-40

38 For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.

39 And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.

40 And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.

John 6:44

44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.

Ecclesiastes 12:13-14

13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.

14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.

Well…
To use a verse from Ecclesiastes to build a doctrine applying to the New Testament is problematic. Especially when this preacher intentionally ignores some pretty important facts.
1) if our after death experience will be like Jesus, where is the evidence that Jesus was in some kind of soul sleep prior to the resurrection? 1 Peter 3:19 gives us a clue as to what he was doing-preaching to the SOULS in prison. Which souls? Those who were disobedient during the time of Noah’s flood. Oops, I guess souls do know what’s going on after they die after all.
2) Moses certainly died, yet he also somehow conversed with Christ on the mount of transfiguration.
3) the souls under the altar in revelation 6:9-11 certainly aren’t asleep, but crying out for judgement.
4) this presupposes Christ was not God, as he would cease to have full omniscience during his time in the tomb.
5) Matt 27:51-53 has some very interesting things happening that certainly don’t support this preacher.
6) eccl. 9:5 is a favorite of the SDA and their offshoots. While it was the opinion of Solomon, it’s clearly not correct in light of the New Testament.
A)the dead know nothing- refuted by examples above
B)they have no reward-refuted by 1 cor 3:14, Matt 25:23, Heb 11:6, Rev 22:12, etc etc etc
C)the memory of them is forgotten-either the Bible is just obviously wrong OR this is hyperbole. Hyperbole makes much more sense given the rest of the verse. Which means the whole verse is hyperbolic:) bad way to make doctrine.
