Most doctors save lives. PM&R actually give people their lives back.

This is the first time I’ve ever heard the word “physiatrist”

"Put it with the others."

"But doc, that room is full. Is there somewhere else I can put them?"

Mom had 2 knee replacement surgeries. GF's dad had a stroke. Rehab docs are, indeed, the GOATs.

I actually guessed physical. I feel an undeserved sense of accomplishment.

As a PSYCHiatry resident who has done PHYSiatry electives...physiatry IS a lot of mental health! They deal with functional disorders just as much as we do, if not more 😅

Physiatry: The doctors I hope I never see again, but in the most loving way possible.

Hi Dr. Glaucomflecken, I am the grateful patient who requested you do this video as a tribute to my P&MR doctors at Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington, VA. Thank you so much! I really appreciate it--and the video is great!!! Susan Picerno

OMG! I worked in PM&R for 15 years and NO ONE knew that this specialty existed except us and our patients. It is the GREATEST specialty in the world and it’s impossible to get into. I worked with the leaders in spinal cord injury and brain injury rehab and I saw miracles every single day. If you want to be brought to your knees in medicine and believe in a higher power you need to spend time with these experts.

I love my physiatrist. They allow me to do stuff. Like walk.

So, my mom was one of the very first board certified physiatrists. She was never sure how to pronounce “physiatrist”. She would have loved this.

Can confirm, when I had heart failure, a stroke, and sepsis all within a few weeks, rehabilitation gave me my life back! I went from unable to go up stairs or get in a tub to jogging and tackling my toddler thanks to them! Best specialty in the world, though I am also deeply fond of cardiologists.

As a current med student contemplating PM&R this is great lol

Wow this is by far the most likes I’ve ever had. Thanks everyone! I appreciate the support and insights in the replies.

PMR is on the vanguard of the folks treating long covid. because it's like Ehlers Danlos - "You mean there's a process affecting 80 body systems requiring the skills of neuro, ortho, PT, and pain management just for starters? Sign me up!"

Bless PMR.

I'm a rehab (neuro) nurse in an acute medical rehab hospital (PM&R) in the USA. The other day, a nurse shadowing with me, and as I was explaining our doctor coverage "we have 3 physiatrists, and 2 internal med docs..." I got a blank stare, then "...what's a physiatrist...? 😂😂😂

My oldest son had a GREAT physiatrist when he was younger. We will forever be grateful for her.

PM&R saved my life after helping learn how to walk again after my fourth spinal surgery. The team with PM&R actually did more for my mental health and depression then any Psych doc could ever. ❤❤❤

I'M SO EXCITED! A PM&R video, the specialty my son went into! When he told me what he was specializing in, he added that most people don't know what that is. I responded, "Son, I'm a speech therapist, I get it."

Laying here watching this while recovering from getting a baclofen pump. Thats is a life changing PM&R thing for those not familiar (which is basically everyone. 😂)I'm a lifelong disabled person and epidemiologist doing disability-related research. I do a bit of disability lecturing w 3rd year med students. There are always one or two who are extraordinarily compationate and kind. I gently push those folks towards PMR. Also: physically disabled med students and prospective med students. PMR needs you and PMR pts need you even more.
