Leslie Van Houten, one of Charles Manson’s most famous followers convicted for the killings of Leno and Rosemary LaBianca, has been released from prison on parole. NBC’s Anne Thompson reports for TODAY on the decision that’s sparking controversy.

I was a teenager when the horrific Manson killings took place, and I remember that NONE of those monsters showed the slightest remorse for what they did to those poor people. Now we’re supposed to feel sympathy because she’s old and went through therapy in prison? Her victims never had a chance to get old. A life sentence should be a LIFE sentence.

I don't feel that anyone who participated in those killings should ever be released. She stabbed someone to death and talked about how hard it was to break through the skin. I only hope that she does not harm anyone else or profit in any way from the killings she participated in. Shame on our society that does not make people accountable for their actions. What mercy did she show to her victims Rosemary and Leno? No matter if she is 73 now. Those poor family members. Only God can forgive her but will hold her accountable in spite of forgiving her.

She was involved in murdering someone and by reports it sounded like a very aggressive and fueled by rage . I don't think any of them deserve a free and normal life and anyone who disagrees need to look at themselves

So the lesson is: you can BRUTALLY MURDER 2 people and then just wait in prison until you’re at retirement age? That’s what I’m getting from this situation. When someone does something that evil, there needs to be a punishment.

Can’t understand how Manson, who actually did not murder anyone, got a life sentence, never got parole, and died in prison, while Van Houten, who DID brutally murder two people, gets out on parole.

What a shame! The way they murdered those people was terrible! I can't believe they would ever even consider releasing one of them let alone let it happen! 😢
