Charles Manson follower Leslie Van Houten walked out of a California prison Tuesday after serving more than 50 years of a life sentence for her participation in two infamous murders.

Van Houten “was released to parole supervision,” the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation said in a statement.

She left the California Institution for Women in Corona, east of Los Angeles, in the early morning hours and was driven to transitional housing, her attorney Nancy Tetreault said.

Poor old woman. She deserves her freedom and a chance to reintegrate peacefully into society.

The parole board has multiple times over multiple years recommended her release citing her “extraordinary rehabilitative efforts”. She should have been released years ago if not for politics and optics, y’all should be ashamed of yourselves being afraid of a little old lady, upholding the law is more important than your feelings, she’s served her time and has earned the opportunity to live out the remainder of her life a free women.

I don’t like the crimes anymore than anyone else, what she did was abhorrent, and I understand she was originally sentenced to die but because you might not like the fact the sentenced was modified doesn’t mean she doesn’t deserve to have the law fairly applied to her now.
