How Moving Out of San Francisco Has Made Me More Reflective | The Tim Ferriss Show

Welcome to another episode of The Tim Ferriss Show, where it is usually my job to sit down with world-class performers of all different types to tease out the habits, routines, favorite books, and so on that you can apply and test in your own life. This time, we have a slightly different format, and I’m the guest.

I answered questions on plantar fasciitis relief, manga-assisted language learning and retention, breathing exercises, wolf conservation, parenting ambitions, VR therapy, mood and energy remedies, post-pandemic social reintroduction, the value of college, favorite wrestling movies, and much, much more.

Please enjoy!

The less things and people going around your life the easier it is to focus on what is important, your mental health and body first. I isolated myself and just practice self care routines and meditation most of my day, doing this was like night and day for me and highly recommend it to anyone struggling.

But San Francisco followed you to Austin. Only the scenery and weather are different.

I've in a similar spot in life, Tim. Completely understand what you're saying here. Wishing you a mentally prosperous New Year.

The influence of a city dominated by a culture which encourages us to be focussed on the external can be so powerful. changing environment and moving out of San Francisco sounds like you have really nourished your internal world. Good for you. I have done the same, living by the sea, where my office is now a beach, if I choose, but most importantly, the pace of the local small city is fast enough but does not have such a strong pull. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on self reflection Tim. Marie-Louise

Having been born and raised in Cali the best thing I have ever done was leave. Left in the late’60’s… never looked back never lived it’s demise. Did live in its beauty and rolled like a puppy in its joyful bounty.
I’m astonished you lived there. Astonished you actually had the mind left to leave. Kudos…

Nice one although Austin soon will be awash in tech with the mass migration from California. I wish you all the best

Mr. Ferris. Greetings. Happy holidays. Do you have a list of the labs you have had the extensive blood works done at? I'm a veteran and I dont trust the va hospital is being honest with there findings. Do you have a link to a list of Trusted Lavatories that run extensive blood test and scans? I really need it. I'm in the City, Dog Patch. Appreciate you. Respect.

Your podcast episodes have been a richer and truer to every day life experience for non-tech people like myself.

Loving the journey towards parenthood that you’re on. Excited to continue to learn and grow !

The kind of friendships also matters. I know people in the bay area that aren't in tech at all and live normal lives but grew up here. I think if you come from outside bay area to work it will because of a tech job which then will automatically put you in a bubble to hang out with tech co workers and etc...

We are your kids, Tim. Breeding is very suboptimal!
The 4 hour parent? I doubt it!

Sorry to hear about your uncle Tim. Reflection is a gift, and perhaps a place where you keep the memory of people that matter alive.

Wishing you and yours a loving and fulfilling 2022. You inspire a lot of original thinking and I’m truly grateful to you for that. Thank you x

Ps. My uncle died too, a few weeks back, in a tragic alcohol-related fall. My biggest lesson is, to live more generously with words, time and action; in the end, they are the only things of any value.
